Worlds end fic!

A moment like this.

They'd done it. They had actually done it. The world was safe once more. The asteroid which threatened to end the world as they knew it was gone. Normality could now be restored.

They'd headed back to the mess, celebrating they only way they knew how, with music blaring, everyone was happy, revelling in the events of the last hour.

All she could do was stand and watch, her head still heavy from the toxic fumes she had inhaled earlier, in her quest to get her son back, but somehow, all that was forgotten as she launched back into work mode, giving Lena the vital information she needed to send the rocket hurtling into the asteroid, smashing it apart. Months and months of hard work had resulted in this moment. It was her words, that led to this. She confirmed that the world was indeed safe.

She smiled as she saw Major Javadi attempting to dance, albeit not very well, with his son and his friends, Marcus dancing and holding his daughter, the others having a ball.

Yet she was standing at the edge with Duncan and Lena, chatting, watching the joyous scene in front of her. Her beloved boys celebrating with their friends, all too aware of what could've been, had Noah not pulled her out and sought help from Luke and Duncan.

"Stephanie.. How are you?" The Major asked, keen to take a minute away from all the dancing, having left AJ with the others.

"Much better, thank you", she smiled, thinking how lovely it was to see a much happier Major, who was normally very serious.

"I still think you should take it easy. You had us all very worried", Duncan added, noticing that Stephanie was beginning to tire, despite her protestations that all was fine. Lena, who was all for leaving Stephanie there to die, didn't say anything. She didn't need too.

"I will, thank you" She replied, reaching for her cup which was placed on the side. The 4 of them stood chatting for sometime, until Marcus, joined them, Gaia having popped out for some air.

"Well, it's been quite a night. You're looking better Stephanie" Marcus remarked, Duncan and the Major nodding in agreement. Lena remained silent.

"Thank you", she replied, smiling broadly from ear to ear. She was keeping one eye on Luke and Noah, who she hadn't seen that happy for sometime. They had made friends, grown into wonderful sons, and they helped save the world of course. They were a credit to both her and Duncan, who had made quite an impact on them both. It was his quick thinking and medical knowledge that had saved Stephanie's life, and, over the duration of their time at World's End, he had fallen in love with her all over again. The feeling, was entirely mutual, although neither of them knew that yet. He secretly wanted some time alone with her, but, given the circumstances, he knew it would be difficult. After all, they had a lot to thank Stephanie for.

He couldn't take his eyes off her, wishing he'd never let her go. Hoping he would never have to again. They were a family now, and they had been through enough. None of them wished for anymore upset.

"You look tired Stephanie." He saw the tiredness in her eyes, the events of the day finally catching up with her. She had been a hero, in every sense of the word, very nearly losing her life in the process.

She nodded, admitting defeat. Smiling wearily at Duncan, the decision was made to retire for the night. Accompanied by the Major, the three of them headed upstairs, leaving Marcus with the task of informing Luke and Noah, but reassuring them that all was well. The party, they guessed, was probably set to go on late into the night.

None of them now knew what tomorrow would bring. Their new found freedom, the possibility of saying goodbye to their friends. Nobody knew.
