The Blue Haired Beauty

Mal's eyes were meant to be locked on him today. They were supposed to be happy, affectionate and most importantly in love. Ben's eyes and attitude exhibited these traits, but hers' couldn't stop darting to a specific part of the room. Mainly to the person sitting in her line of sight whom she deemed the most radiant.

Safety and warmth comforted her just by looking on at the teen girl. She took in every small detail of her target's appearance. From her unique shiny blue hair down to her seemingly normal chestnut eyes. However, the main part her eyes were kept on were her glistening red lips.

Mal sat and watched the older teen conversing and laughing with her other friends; wanting nothing more than to approach her. She wanted to be the prince Evie always wanted. A prince who could give her everything she dreamt of and who would treat her like the princess she always yearned to be. Yet, most importantly she wanted to be the prince who could replace Evie's memories which still haunted her to this day.

Seemingly, Evie had given that up and settled for Doug. Why that happened she couldn't figure out. Doug was a frail, nerdy boy who couldn't give her anything Mal listed before. How could Evie choose him over a dragon? Maybe Evie thought she wasn't powerful anymore?

Yet Mal couldn't bring herself to split them apart or approach Evie about these inquiries. Mainly due to the bright smile she wore whenever she was around him or the stolen moments they shared when they believed no-one was watching. These small instances prevented Mal from breaking the two apart in all likelihood ending with Evie's heart broken as well.

"Mal, are you alright?" Ben's voice reached her before her senses picked up the touch of his hand on hers.

"Yeah I'm fine," she measured her, genuinely worried, boyfriend, "Just my eyes are getting tired." She stated after her green irises flooded with water causing the tears to overflow. Her hand quickly wiped them away before they had reached the bridge of her nose.

Ben quickly grabbed her hand and excused them both from the table Thus beginning their walk to her and Evie's room in silence. In this room was the only way at present, the two were able to communicate. Yet interruptions were still fairly prevalent. Either due to Ben or another royal wishing for advice on a matter or Doug wanted to speak to or ask Evie out. Somehow amidst this they still found time for one another.

It was a brief walk. Ben insisted on staying with her until she felt better, but Mal assured him sleep was what's needed. Eventually he left not wanting to get into an argument on the day of his Coronation. Stepping inside she fell down onto her bed, not caring about the encased within the room.

She stared down into her pillow trying to understand how one girl could turn her into a teary mess. Even now some were still finding their way down. Remembering she still had on that dreaded makeup she leapt from bed, switched the lights on and shuddered at the sight of herself in the mirror.

"Wow M now I see why you departed so quickly."

Knowing that voice anywhere she hastily faced the culprit who caused these tears. Evie's eyes softened upon locking eyes with her. It was difficult for them not to. Mal's makeup was rearranged on her face not painting that beautiful portrait she had during the dinner. Some tears still fell, washing the facial product even more out of place. However, most heartbreaking was the once bright shine her green eyes had, was now being replaced by a dull, unrecognisable colouring.

"M what's the matter?"

"Just a bit upset." Mal vaguely notified the dark blue haired. Not having the courage to lie to the older girl.

"Did Ben do something which bothered you, was Chad being insufferable, did Audrey say something to annoy you?" Evie questioned, still persistent on finding out what and/ or who caused Mal such distress.

"No just forget about it E." She commanded just wanting the conversation to linger on.

As Evie walked closer, Mal decided to wipe the remaining makeup from her face. Extra weight was felt on her lap, stunning her for a bit. Turning her head she was met with dual chocolate orbs staring deeply into her own.

"Alright I'll leave it alone, but you know you can come to me for anything." She spoke hands still resting on her purple haired best friend's lap.

"Yeah I know E, I just need a little time alone"

"Okay I'm leaving, I'll be in the diner quarters if you need me." Releasing her grasp on her thigh and walked towards the door.

"Wait!" Mal shouted causing Evie's movements to pause.

"Do you think I'm weak." Fingers fidgeting with every word. Brown irises grew in surprise, not fully comprehending why Mal had asked the question.
"Why on Earth would I think you're weak?" This question brought a sense of relief into Mal's fiery body. She was appalled at herself for asking or even believing the question she asked.

"Is that what troubled you, you're convinced others think you're frail?" All she received in turn was a nod but that's all she needed. She quickly rushed to Mal wrapping her arms around her. The recipient stiffened, forbidding tears from falling. Yet it proved too much to handle as a few brimmed the rim of her eyes, she had to get Evie to leave. Now.

"No, I'm okay Evie!" Forcibly unwrapping her hands and taking a step back. The hurt look on her best friends' face was enough to make her second guess her decision. However, she stood firm retaining a blank expression upon her face.

"Um...okay... I..I'm sorry I'll be leaving now." Placing a small peck onto the dragon before muttering an 'i love you', finishing with her walking outside. Seemingly walking back to the dinner party.

Nevertheless, Mal's body froze with the only movements being the shakes from her legs. A heavy sigh released itself from her lips prompting her body to be opened up filling it with unease and regret. Unease came from unleashing her annoyance with herself onto Evie. Whilst, regret reared its head once second thoughts of making her princess leave became prevalent in her mind.

Again, she fell onto her bed, this time around discarding the dried pillow. Not wanting to pick up her best friend's pillow, Mal stayed motionless on her side before she drifted into a world of unconsciousness. Just as this action took place her lips uttered an 'I love you too Princess' to the nonexistent blue haired beauty who had taken her heart into the dining quarters.
