Just a short one-shot I wrote. Disclaimer: I DO NOT own 'Harry Potter'.
Lily stood at the window of the Gryffindor tower and sighed. She had had a nice sixteenth birthday, she really had. But she couldn't suppress the feeling one person hadn't said his birthday wishes yet.
Severus. She knew they hadn't had the perfect friendship last time she'd seen him, but she wanted to change that. She did. But she couldn't apologize to him. She had done nothing wrong. It was him who'd called her a Mudblood.
But she missed him. As a friend. She had her girl friends and they were awesome, but she'd known Severus since childhood and they had been best friends for too long to forget him easily.
She heard the sound of a voice and turned around. The common room was almost empty. Most students were still at dinner, but she had decided to come back earlier. Only two little boys sat laughing near the portrait hole, playing chess. The sound she had heard had been quieter.
She shook her head slightly and turned back towards the window. It was already dark outside and snowflakes kept falling down to the floor. Everything was covered in snow and Lily loved it.
But she heard the sound again. It sounded like... but that couldn't be... music.
She opened the window slightly and listened carefully.
"...because I've cared for you
since the day I firstly saw you.
And even if you have no idea,
I'd like to tell you
that I am no longer
your best friend
but your lover
and please open the door and come out
to embrace your old friend
to listen to his words
to see in his eyes
the love he hoped you shared with him,
dearest, dearest friend."
Lily stared into the darkness, trying to make out the one who sang. She knew the voice... She had recognized it as soon as she heard the first lines of the song... and she was incredibly happy about it.
Quietly she cleared her throat and shouted muffled:
"Who is this?"
She heard a quiet yell and drew her wand.
"Lumos", she whispered. Suddenly she could see even the person at the bottom of the tower. She wondered how he had gotten the permission to get out as it was so dark.
He looked at her but she couldn't see his expression. She just hoped he was smiling.
"Happy Birthday, Lily", he called, but it was only audible to her.
"Thank you", she called back. "That was really sweet. Which song was it?"
He hesitated. "I... I wrote it myself. For you."
Lily felt her face flushing. "Thank you", she said again.
"You know", he began, "I'm sorry."
Lily nodded and remembered he couldn't really see it.
"I know. I'm sorry too. For... for not speaking to you."
She heard muffled laughter. "Lily, you are the only one who shouldn't be sorry."
Lily wondered how fast he had grown up. A year or so ago he would probably have blushed and have said nothing.
"Whatever", she called.
For a moment they said nothing. Then he shouted: "I got to go."
"Yeah, you should", she said, smiling.
"See you." He hesitated. "Happy Birthday."
Lily nodded again but said nothing. She watched him moving away from the tower and disappearing into the castle.
Lily turned around and closed the window.
The first-years were staring at her. Lily blushed and snapped: "What are you looking at?"
"Nothin'", one of the boys said. "Were you talkin' to somebody?"
Lily sat down near the fireplace.
"Yes", she finally answered, "to a very good friend of mine."
The other boy laughed. "Like 'Romeo and Juliet'?"
Lily began to smile. "Yeah. I think like 'Romeo and Juliet'."
Hope you enjoyed! Please review xD
