Now, on with the story!
A young man lay lounging on the floor, with a yellow bird perched on his hand. He faced an open door that showed a walkway and a garden. His back was turned to an older man who kneeled on a cushion in the back of the room.
The reclining boy held the bird up to his eyes, "What, Hatori, is so important?"
Their was silence.
"Well?" He asked, annoyed.
Hatori lowered his eyes some, "We have found another, Akito, in America."
The bird on Akito's hand turned towards Hatori. "Found another what Hatori?" The now interested Akito asked.
Hatori continued to look down as he answered. "This 'other' is not cursed by the zodiac. She is part of a similar curse, but it only affects one person every one-hundred years. They call it the Curse of the Heavens."
Akito looked back at Hatori from the corner of his eye.
"And why is that?" asked a now bored Akito.
Hatori explained dutifully,
"The 'Damned One' as their family calls them turns into either an animal or character from a constellation. This transformation also happens the same way ours does, when the subject is hugged by a member of the opposite sex. Also…"
He paused seeming to be torn between telling Akito another detail. Akito waited silently, with his intense gaze cutting into Hatori. Hatori submitted and continued.
"Along with the ability to understand and converse with the animal of her form, like we can; she has a second ability."
Akito narrowed his eyes in annoyance. He could almost see Hatori squirm in discomfort.
"She can affect people's emotions and actions by singing to them."
Akito's eyes widened a fraction but he managed to keep his cool.
"Is that all?" he asked nonchalantly.
Hatori answered politely, "No."
Akito narrowed his eyes once again, barely containing a full out glare.
"Her curse has a bit of an unusual effect during the winter. Whether she is in human or animal form she can only speak in her animal's language. She loses her human voice."
Akito lifted a thin eyebrow but stayed silent as he shifted his gaze back to the bird that now sat on his open hand.
Hatori waited for a dismissal or an answer.
"I would have you bring her here to Japan."
Akito lifted the bird to his eyes as his gaze glazed over in thought.
"Though not to the main house; I don't want her to close."
Hatori nodded and waited for his dismissal.
Akito's eyes cleared as he smiled forebodingly at the feathered creature in his hand.
"Let our little discovery stay with Shigure's along with Yuki, Kyo, and Tohru Honda."
Akito completely turned away from Hatori as he launched the bird into the air.
Hatori nodded and backed out of the room. He would need to make travel arrangements for Shigure's new houseguest. As well as warn the devious dog about the darker side of the lights of the heavens.
