Deep in the meadow,

Under the willow,

Two lovers meet,

His name is Gale,

Her name is Katniss,

They belong together

Yet everyone disagrees.

She cries for the first time in years;

He glances sorrowful at the sky,

When the autumn moon is full,

Those who forced her to kill children,

Are going to steal her freedom,

They are going to force her to marry Peeta,

Even if her heart does not belong to him,

Specially if her heart does not belong to him.

Despair fills her heart,

As soon as the night withers in pride,

She will be garbed in a wedding dress;

She will have to fake a smile,

Force her lips to free an "I do"

And kiss a man she will never love,

Her heart belongs to Gale.

He hugs her for the last time,

He hates them more than it is possible,

They already took her from him once,

Now they want to take her forever,

The Capitol knows no mercy.

They did everything,

Everything they could,

To prevent this from happening,

But it was not enough,

Not even close,

Now they are taking her freedom

And breaking his heart.

He took piano lessons,

He laughed with Madge,

He kissed her strawberry lips,

They both knew it was not real,

They both knew it was not right,

Gale belongs with Katniss;

His heart belongs to her.

She learnt how to bake bread,

She admired Peeta's wit,

She had hushed him with kisses

That were too forced to be real,

She never wanted another kiss,

She thought she would learn to love Peeta

Deep down Katniss knew she couldn't,

One of Gale's snares had caught her heart.

The victor and the hunter,

The real star-crossed lovers of District Twelve,

Meant to be yet pulled apart by destiny,

Fate can shatter in a pin drop or a slip of paper,

But their love is written in coal

And what is written in coal cannot be erased,

No matter how hard anyone tries.

Catnips grow at the base of the willow,

Katniss plucks several

And embellishes her braid with them.

He searches in his leather pouch

And takes out a bread of the Mellark bakery,

She searches in her pockets

And takes out a box of matches,

They gather twigs and set them on fire,

Steam is concealed by the black night sky,

Their fingers intertwine as they toast the bread,

They share the bread with the moon, the stars and the love of their life.

Katniss had never wanted to marry,

Until she participated in the games,

They changed her,

They changed him

But they did not change their love.

Gale glanced at Katniss' eyes once more,

She had to be certain about what they were going to do,

Katniss claimed Prim would not be affected,

She was too popular for President Snow to kill her,

Cinna would take her under his wing and raise her.

She nods once because it has to be done;

The sweet aroma of fear becomes almost tangible,

As he raises his palm full of nightlocks to his lips;

Their lips meet in a tender last kiss

And they swallow the lethal berries,

It only seemed fitting to end it the way it started.

Deep in the meadow,

Under the willow,

Two lovers were set free

By love and death.
