Hello and welcome to my new story. My penname used to be Lazyshadownin. This is an EmbryXOC story that takes place after Breaking Dawn. FYI: Bella and Edward are forcing Jake to go to school. I'm also typing this at 3:42 am, so if anything doesn't make sense, I'm sorry.
Disclaimer: Seriously, I don't own Twilight. Please don't sue me. Song title belongs to Liz Phair.
Why Can't I?
For as long as I could remember, Paul has always been my best friend. We grew up next door to each other. We played together and went to school together. Nothing could separate us. When we started middle school, I was dubbed the tom boy. I have never had a boyfriend, or even a date to a dance. That all changed when I met Embry Call.
Somehow, he ended up in all my classes during my senior year. He was a junior, yet he understood calculus. The sad thing is, I didn't understand that class. It was like Latin to me. On the first day of school, Paul and I were walking down the hall to our class, when I saw him. He was laughing at something Jacob Black was saying. I pretty much stopped walking in the middle of the hall. Paul, of course, had no idea what was wrong with me. Then he noticed who I was looking at. He groaned softly and mumbled something I couldn't understand.
He was the most gorgeous thing I had ever seen, except for maybe the Cullens. His longish dark brown hair was pulled back in a short pony tail and he was smiling, as if nothing could go wrong for him. Then he disappeared into a classroom. I was brought out of my musings by Paul saying "Hey Mia, you're drooling."
This caused me to blush a bright red that was visible under my tan skin. "Paul, shut up. What just happened?" I asked, as I followed beside him.
"You just saw Embry. Like many other girls before, you have fallen for him." He replied, smirking.
I groaned. Of all the guys I could've drooled over, it just had to be a player. Great. Just great. As if this day could get any worse. Paul led me into our class. I went to find my assigned seat, when I realized he was in this class. Carter just happened to be the name on the desk behind him. When I sat down, he turned around to talk to me. "Hey. I'm Embry. You're Paul's friend, Mia, right?" Embry asked, smiling.
I simply nodded. "Has he mentioned anything about me to you?" Embry asked, looking hopeful.
"Not until this morning. He claimed you were a chick magnet." I replied, smirking, just as Paul did.
"More like a chick repeller. He really hasn't said anything about me?" He asked, suddenly looking sad.
"No, he didn't. Paul doesn't talk about his other friends when he's with me." I said, as I felt an unnerving need to comfort him.
The class flew by, since we did nothing but talk. The rest of the day, Embry kept talking to me. It was if he was interested in me, but couldn't do anything about it. When school finally ended, he walked me home. "So, Mia, there's this bon fire at the beach this weekend, to celebrate the new school year. Would you be interested in going with me?" He asked, his extremely hopeful look returning.
"Sure." I answered before I could think about it.
"Great! I'll pick you up at seven." He said, his normal cheerful demeanor returning.
By then, we had arrived at my house. "I'll see you tomorrow, Embry." I said, as I walked up the porch steps.
"Bye, Mia!" Embry said, grinning happily, as I unlocked my front door and went in.
I had no idea what this weird effect Embry Call had on me. Seriously! What was wrong with me? Agreeing to go on date with a guy I just met this morning? I must be crazy. Then why couldn't I breathe whenever my thoughts drifted off to him?
By the way, those of you who have read Can't Have You might have noticed its sudden disappearance. I've finally made up my mind on what direction I wanted to take it, but it calls for some MAJOR revision. Please bear with me. Please review. Thanks!
