Jaidella Strike:
The Hunger Games
This story is when the descendants of Kiki Strike (and her gang) and Katniss Everdeen are in the midst of another rebellion.
Chapter I
Grandmary said that it should never happen again. The demons who controlled the game had total control over the people, which was not how it was supposed to be. She said that when Lady Katniss ended the games, it was supposed to be final. But that is only what she said, and no one listens to us.
My mother did not like Grandmary to speak out against the Capital Government. Grandmary never heeded what mother asked, though. "Marissa Bentley," Grandmary would croak at my mother, as though she was a naughty child again, "I am your grandma and you will not speak against me. Besides, no one is gonna harm an 82 year-old woman!" She chuckled at a private joke she shared will herself and waddled away faster than a duck being chased by a fox.
Secretly, I agreed with my mother. New Panem was far too dangerous.
Panem was a country that rose out of a destroyed place called North America. They had these games called the Hunger Games, where two kids, a boy and a girl, from each of the 12 districts of Panem would fight to the death in an arena. A girl named Katniss won the games and started a rebellion, and took over the Leaders of Panem. Our history is sort of hazy, so we don't really no what comes next. Then all of the sudden these newcomers came to Panem: seven women and their husbands and children. Each women had a special talent, and for this reason they were shunned from society. 70 years ago, tensions had been brewing. The President died, and no one knew who was supposed to lead next, because the deceased president hadn't named any candidates. There was a bloody war, and the side that won set up a dictatorship that lasts today. You'll notice I haven't mentioned what happened to the seven women and their families. They were hunted down and killed, but people still whisper stories that a few of their descendents live among us, and the Capital Government (that's what the dictator's most trusted councilors are called, and they are also the military leaders) is always on the lookout for someone as unusually talented. If they find someone that fits the description of "unusually talented", then they are held until there is enough of them to play the Hunger Games.
I am one of their descendants.
