This infernal graveyard held no end of enemies, for every four I cut down, another ten took their place. I could feel a pain that was even worse than when dearest brother lopped off my arm. I had no health crystals, there were no chests nearby, and Vulgrim wouldn't even look at place that had the danger of him scuffing his clothes. I was all but being held up by the wall behind me as another three fallen came towards me.
I was able to dispatch them, but not before they added to my already long list of injuries. Though I had no fear within me, a small seed of worry was starting to sprout. I could not continue like this. Already I could hear wing beats of more fallen angels, and there might have even been the sound of claws scraping along stone as well. All in all, unless something happened and happened quickly, I would be facing the death that the Council wished so fervently for.
Before I could think anymore upon my situation, a loud and harsh 'caw' broke my thoughts. A large dark raven landed not two feet from where I was quickly losing my ability to stand. Its eye stared at me, and as I stared back I felt a flicker of familiar. Before it could fully extend its wings to take flight again, I shot it dead in the heart with Mercy. As it exploded, I watched the healing souls get absorbed into my arm, and while I was not whole, I was able to quickly quash the worry that these insignificant foes might smite me.
I gave out a small huff of laughter as I prepared myself for the next wave of enemies.
"And they say I fight aloneā¦"
AU: This little snippet came to me when I was watching some game play, and it struck me as odd that the only Earth creature that survived was the crows. Then I remembered that Death's familiar was actually a crow, so why wouldn't he send down some extra help for his brother? It's probably well within his power after all.
