Perhaps she was never his to begin with, but he liked to think that she was—once upon a time.
"I kissed you. After you ate the poison apple."
…
"I know."
William nodded. "But it wasn't enough to wake you. For that, I am sorry."
…
"I am too."

Perhaps it was because he had turned on Ravenna when her beloved father had so easily fallen to her beauty. Perhaps it was because he had left and returned and then promised to never leave again. Perhaps it was the kiss that saved her from eternal death, but she liked to think that he loved her—and not because she reminded him of Sarah.
Because the thought of him thinking of Sarah made her unexplainably sad.
But maybe because he could love Sarah even in her death, that Snow White loved him ever more.
"You weren't supposed to kiss me."
"That is probably true," the Huntsman replied.
"Is that all you have to say?"
…
"I'm glad you're alive, your highness."
Would it be a cruel thing then, to ask him to love her?

Perhaps it was because she was fair, was kind and beautiful, was vibrant and the essence of life itself. Perhaps it was because she had an overwhelming fierceness and an overpowering presence and a warm heart. Perhaps it was because she was the queen, but he liked to think that he would die for her—not because he loved her, but because she had so selfishly saved them all.
But his heart says he does. That he loves her.
And this frightens him terribly.
"Will you forgive me," the Huntsman asked the stars, "if I love another? Perhaps more than I loved you?"
Because the thought of not loving her, would kill him.
