Author's note- Ficlet for lover100 on Live Journal. Normally I'd give you the prompt but that's at the end since it kind of ruins the fic.
Watching
On any other day, he loved to watch her. Almost from that moment that she walked into the briefing room, his eyes had been on her. They had rarely left after that.
He'd watched her stand up to the men in the briefing room on that first day, stand up to him. Asked for an arm wrestle.
He'd watched her when they were in that cold dark environment, watched as she tried to dial their way out. Watched as he gave her that order to leave him, as she climbed out of their cavern.
When Jolinar had taken her body, he had known that her movements weren't right. Her walk and attitude had changed and he had known. He had seen her in the cell, knowing he had lost one friend to the Goa'uld. And didn't want to lose a friend that was quickly becoming a whole hell of a lot more than that to him.
He had watched her when they had been captured by Hathor. Had seen far more of her then he should, knowing he shouldn't look, but unable to tear his eyes completely away from her. And after he had been implanted with that Goa'uld, when he had opened his eyes and found that he was still himself, he had seen her.
He'd watched her behind that force shield, had seen her trapped. Would have traded anything to be in her place, to be on that side of the force shield with the enemy. To be the one to die when they came around that corner and fired their weapons. And he'd watched her eyes, knowing his own feelings were mirrored in his own eyes. Had known that their feelings for each other were as impossible to have as that force shield was to break through. He wasn't supposed to care for her, but that knowledge hadn't been able to help him.
And he had watched her a few weeks later, as he had spit out that he cared for her, a lot more than he was supposed to. Admitted that he cared for her. Watched as she admitted the exact same thing.
He had watched for years as she had played with her doohickeys.
Watched as she had been around Cassie.
Watched her as he fell in love her again so many times over the years.
Watched as she decided to get a life.
Watched as she stepped through the gate without him, while he was stuck behind that desk. Saw how her leadership abilities grew and had never felt so proud of her.
Watched her as she gave him that ring, watched as his whole future unraveled all because of a small black velvet box. Knowing that he wouldn't do a God damn thing to stand in her way.
Watched her as she made wedding plans, planned her wedding to someone else. Someone who wasn't him.
And he watched her as she said that she was making a big huge mistake, and saw his future get a bit brighter.
Had watched her as she fished. An Astrophysicist who couldn't catch a fish to save her life.
He had watched her for the months afterward when they were finally together. And watched as that smile on her face was meant only for him.
But today, today he didn't like watching her.
Because he saw her walk out that door, walk away from their future. Walk away from their life together.
Knowing he'd never watch her again.
Author's note- The prompt for this was 'break up'. I'll be posting the next part tomorrow. Thanks for reading and if you liked it let me know!
