"I won't let him kill you, not if I have anything to do about it," Jacob's face contorted with rage as he watched Edward Cullen. "I'll never let anyone hurt you Bella; especially not some bloodsucker."
"Don't make me choose," Bella's eyes were shining, more alive than they had been for the last several months, even in the dark and overgrown forest, "because I choose him. It's always been him, Jake. I've already decided to spend my life with him. If I have my way, that life will be forever." Her face was blank and casual; did she realize what she was saying? Did she realize that she was causing him pain?
Jake's mouth opened, but no sound came out. He stared at her before lifting his eyes to look at Cullen. Like a statue, Cullen stared back emotionlessly. The vampire smiled suddenly, and rage boiled to the surface of Jacob's skin, but Edward was paying attention to Bella, not the wolf-boy.
"Bella," Jake's voice came out as a pathetic whimper.
Bella turned after placing her fingers through Edward's. "I guess this means we can't be friends anymore, huh? Vampires and Werewolves don't' really belong together, do they?"
Jake choked at her, a growl sticking in his neck. "Fine," he said, "choose him. Choose the one who's going to make you die. I don't care. You never loved me, ever. I guess I was just a puppy to you, or something like that. Thanks for lying to me this entire time. I really appreciate the favor."
"Jake it's not-"
"He's not listening Bella. It's better this way. Like you said, 'Vampires and Werewolves don't really belong together.'"
That had been six months ago. He had just been so angry, so he just phased and ran. He couldn't hear them anymore—the voices of his pack. He had gone deaf listening to them tell him about her, like he cared or something.
"She's MARRYING him Jake. Come and stop her!"
"They're gone. They'll turn her soon. You could stop her, if you could find them and try. She's your friend, Jake. Are you just going to let her die?"
"Jake she's—"
Then everything went silent in his head. From that moment on, all his ties with the world were severed. All that seemed to matter were the birds and the changing weather. It was day, and then it was night. He was hungry and tired, so he ate and slept. He never thought, and he had no feelings any longer.
That was when Jacob Black forgot what it meant to be human.
Disclaimer: This story is a figment of my own imagination/ a way to make my life a little bit more exciting. All canon characters are property of The Twilight Saga and Stephanie Mayer.
This story includes an alternate story line, beginning with New Moon, because you can't be half-undead and half-living. It's either all or nothing baby!
I reject sparkly vampires.
