Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter nor am I making money off this.

Author's Note: Just some random drabble I wrote about Snape. Anyway. Mom's yelling at me to go to bed, so here 'tis.

Dying, Snape thought. I'm dying. Blood pooled at his neck, dripping down his chest. He could feel the numbing fire of the poison coursing through his veins, slowly destroying him from the inside.

Footsteps sounded in the hallway. He would have frowned, if he had had the strength. Who could be there? A pair of irridescent green eyes swam into blurry view. Potter. Harry Potter. Bane of his existence, his only reason for living. Hated messy black hair, beloved emerald gaze. Always so full of emotion.

Hate and confusion crept into Potter's stare. At least... He wanted to explain himself. If he was going to die anyway, at least he could ask for Potter's forgiveness in the next life. Memories poured from him, memories of a horrible childhood when his only bright spot was a fiery, green-eyed girl; memories of being bullied all through his school life; memories of a fatal mistake, one insulting name that he regretted the rest of his life; memories of joining the Dark Lord and learning of a prophecy; memories of begging for salvation and serving Albus Dumbledore, forever and always in the name of Lily Evans. And then, so gradually he never noticed it, his cause was no longer to stay loyal to his first love, but to keep Harry Potter alive; to see that sparkle of innocence in the boy's gaze. It took him a long time to realize, and even longer to truly admit it to himself, but he never wanted the compassion and freely given love in the boy's soul to give out. Most of all, he wanted Harry to somehow forgive him. He could call the idiot Harry now, right, since he was going to die anyway?

A silvery substance poured from him. Snape tried to smile when he saw the bushy brown-haired know-it-all conjure a small vial. All was not lost.

"Look... at... me..." Three words, a plea to be allowed to see Lily's eyes one last time. A plea to see Harry one last time. A plea for futile recognition. A plea for forgiveness.
