Beneath Me

He hated her. He loathed her presence. He despised her perfect hair, her beautiful face, her determined eyes. He couldn't have her. Spike watched her throw the money at him. He watched her walk away. He knew that. Just as she had said, he was beneath her. And now he would kill her.

He knew it would hurt, but he didn't care. He could bare a few hours pain in exchange for her death. Harmony had said that he wouldn't be able to do it. Dru had left him because he hadn't. Well, he would show them! Spike would finally kill her. And after everything, it would feel good.

The bushes were a perfect hiding place. The gun was loaded and in his hand. He was ready. She walked out onto the steps and sat down. She was vulnerable. Buffy was vulnerable. Spike walked out of the bushes and cocked the gun. She looked up at the sound. He stopped in his tracks. She was crying. He came to kill her but she was crying.

"What do you want now?" She asked looking broken. He grit his teeth and swallowed. His anger, his hate, it all vanished in a second.

"What's wrong?" He asked in return. She looked away."I don't want to talk about it..." She whispered. He couldn't do it. He never could have done it. He lowered the gun.

"I-Is there something I can do?" He asked hesitantly. She looked lost and confused. He tilted his head in thought. Could he comfort her? Would she push him away again? He took the risk.

Slowly, he walked towards where she was sitting. He sat next to her. He touched her softly, patting her back, trying his best to help. Her head rose at his touch and he brought his hand down to his side again. He said nothing. She said nothing. And they sat. He loved her.
