Hello! This is my first Once Upon a time fanfiction and I don't think I've ever been so nervous before posting my writing online before. It might be a bit confusing,(due to it being part of a larger storyline I may or may not post) so I've put an explanation at the bottom. Please enjoy!
He is not alive. To be alive implies that he feels or thinks; he is an empty shell that has done neither in countless years.
He sits on his bed, hands limp by his sides, and his eyes are staring into space. The nurse comes in. It's the same nurse that takes care of him every day. It's funny, he still doesn't know he name. The nurse has never offered it and he couldn't ask. She dresses him and make sure he eats, she forces the pills down his throat. Pills that are supposed to help him, but have not done anything, not that they could; pills are not designed to have an effect on curses. The nurse pulls him up from the bed and leads him by his wrist from the stark white room, down an equally stark white hallway and into a room where two others sit.
The room has a few posters on the walls, saying things like "Keep hanging in there!" under a picture of a kitten hanging from a branch. There is a bookshelf, empty save for a few old books and a couple magazines. A woman stands in front of it, trying to decide which book she should read for the thousandth time. Her name is Belle, he knows. She tried to talk to him, in the early years, asking if he knew they were really fairytale characters and if that was why he was in there to. He didn't reposed, he couldn't if he wanted to.
On a couch nearby sits a girl. She is about his age, with red hair pulled into a messy bun by a nurse. Her eyes have the same emptiness as his. Like him, this girl has not felt or thought in countless years. The nurse sits him down beside her and they sit, still as statures for a long time. Belle chooses her book and sits on a chair across from them, sometimes glancing up to stare at the teenagers wishfully. After an hour of this, the nurse comes back and takes him to a different room where a therapist sits, he will spend the next hour there as the therapist tries to get him to move, respond, do anything.
In a snowy forest, a rabbit runs for its life. Jumping over tree roots and under bushes it runs, faster and faster. Not fast enough, however. It runs straight into the hunter, who grins maliciously and pulls the trigger. It's a direct hit, right into the heart. The rabbit falls, blood colouring its fur.
As the light goes out of the rabbit's eyes, light goes into the boys.
The girl, still in the room stirs suddenly, clarity coming into her eyes. Belle drops her book in shock.
The boy looks up at the therapist, his mouth open to ask the questions that are about to spill out confusion filling him (it's the first thing he's felt in a long time), when it hits him and he gasps in shock.
His curse is broken.
Baelfire smiles. It feels good to be alive.
Okay, the whole thing is that Baelfire is under a curse that renders him unable to talk, feel or really do anything, as you've probably guessed. He is in the mental hospital with Belle and the teenage girl. He's been there since the curse started and it is not a happy place.
Then the rabbit, which is connected to the curse, dies and Baelfire gets his thoughts and other things back.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it and please review!
