First off, I have never written a OTH fan fic before…so bare with me as I attempt it. Now, I have mine placed in the day of the shooting at the school. Since it is my story and I am free to have fun, I am going to make it that this is when Lucas heart condition very new in the sense that everyone knows about it. Enjoy my darlings : )

Sweat soaked Lucas Scott's face as the pain intensified in his chest. Every breath he took felt as if someone had been standing on top of him. He ran down the court with all his strength, but yet his strength could not prove to be enough. He stopped underneath the basketball hoop and slowly raised his arms in the air.

"Nathan!" he called out ever so weakly.

Nathan looked his way. As the other team's player tried to grab the ball, Nathan pivoted backwards and then slid around the opposing player and threw the ball to his brother. Lucas couldn't even see the ball coming as the pain in his chest hit an all time high having everything become slowly blocked out. Darkness came in from the corners of his eyes. He grabbed his chest as he fell to the ground. Just as his body made contact with the floor, his body jolted up from his bed.

Breathlessly, Lucas looked around his bedroom. His heart pounded hard against his chest. He tried to bring his breathing to an even level. Lucas reached over to his nightstand to grab his medicine but it was not there. He tried to recollect where it would be at and then he remembered. He left in his basketball bag which he left in Coach Whitey's classroom. He could not let anything get his heart rate up until that point.

He sat there looking around his bedroom trying to calm himself down, when the door to his room came flying open.

"Lucas Scott! Don't tell me you are still in bed!" his girlfriend yelled as she entered the room.

Brooke Davis saw Lucas sitting up in his bed. His hair and faced seemed drenched. Even on his shirt around his neck was wet.

"What's wrong, Lucas. You feeling alright?" she inquired.

"Bad dream." He stated.

Brooke crawled on to the bed. "What happened?"

"Don't worry about it." He replied shaking his head, "We got to get to school."

Brooke pushed her lips together and licked them. "Why don't I try to make you feel better before we go?"

Before Lucas could respond, Brooke was already kissing him. He took his arm from under his blankets and gently pushed her away. He knew the intense feeling he felt when Brooke and him kissed. He knew all too well how much his heart would race when their lips were locked together in a sweet exchange of passion. Even with his medicine kicking his heart into gear, his chest would hurt. He did not want to imagine what it would feel without it.

As Lucas pushed her away, Brooke looked perplexed. He shoved the covers off his body and got out of bed. He opened up his dresser to look for some clothes for the day. He tried to not look at Brooke for she would be demanding an answer for him avoiding kissing her.

"Lucas, why did you just pull away from me?" she asked in a slightly offended tone.

"We're running late for school." He lied. "Let's continue where we left off after."

Lucas hated that he was too weak to make love to his girlfriend. He desired to kiss her but just could not bring himself to do it. He hated that loving her made him so weak. He hated more that he had to admit it. He slipped on a pair of jeans over his boxers and put on a hoody Keith bought him for Christmas the year before.

Brooke found herself very confused and offended. She sat up from the bed. "You can walk all by yourself to school then if that's how you feel."

"Brooke, it is just that –" he was interrupted by the door slamming.

Great way to start the day off, Lucas thought. He highly considered crawling back under his blankets and going back to sleep but his need for his medication kept him from doing it.

This day at school better be worth it…
