"Maes, I love you."

The famed three-word phrase turned four. Hughes wouldn't expect to hear that from Roy, not a million years, but when he thought about it, it seemed perfectly normal. They'd known each other for years Hughes didn't feel like counting back, and were friends throughout the bulk of them.

Roy had held onto Maes as they went from the bar the frequented, as was almost ritual. Roy always seemed to take one drink over his maximum liquor value, and have a bit of a time standing after it. Every time they attended a happy hour bar (Two drinks for one? Maes never had to force Roy then!) by themselves, Roy would get into a mood. It was brief, say about a half-hour, but during it, Roy would look positively alluring.

Then it would fade, the mood and the feeling, and Roy was Roy again, slightly warped sense of humour and all. Hughes often took himself home wondering about it for just a little while, before curling up in the bed with Gracia and sleeping off his drinks on her soft and voluptuousness.

But Roy was all smooth planes and arcs, angles that only needed a slight more curve to appear properly feminine. Maes knew Roy wasn't a female, though. And the moment he realized that, even through the haze that Roy's lips claiming his own induced, he found that it didn't matter all that much.

Their minutes ticked away like seconds and Roy was all for letting go, showing to Hughes the part of himself that even he denied having. Roy was warmth personified; mouth, tongue, fingertip-to-palm — all warm. Hughes let himself drown in it for those few moments, let Roy have his way with him until his dark-haired companion had asked him in a husky voice, lowered to the barest qualifications of a whisper, "will you have me now?"

Hughes noticed it later that Roy's body, just like Gracia's, seemed to fit against his perfectly. It was strange that suddenly, even with Roy sleeping on him right now, he was comparing his best friend to his wife. Within the span of one night and a whole lot of liquor, Maes world had took a sharp, spinning turn in a direction that he had no idea of where it led.

Not that he was complaining. Maes Hughes always liked a challenge.
