The Way He Is
Disclaimer: I do not own The Kane Kronicles.
This story has nothing to do with my previous one-shot, "That Nice Swing".
She didn't ever think about a man like him.
Anisha Davidson always was in Central Park on Saturday afternoons. She would always look at the all the beauty of the park and enjoy it despite all the noise of the city.
One day he was there. He went by the name Horus. He seemed out of place in the park, like he didn't belong there at all.
She thought it was cute.
Never did she think about having a relationship with all that was going on; Anisha thought that becoming an author was more important than having a man. Even though at twenty-six, and her friends were dating, she had more serious things on her mind.
Yet, how was it possible that he had such an effect on her? Was how he was dressed? Was it is his kind nature when he bought an ice cream cone for a young child who had dropped theirs?
No. It was how he approached her.
"Excuse me, Miss."
If it weren't for his shadow, she would have never noticed him.
"Yes, how may I help you?"
The man looked into her eyes, and said, "I couldn't help but notice that you are reading about Egyptian mythology."
Anisha looked at the cover and realized what she was reading, not quite understanding.
"Oh…yes, well I have a thing for stories about gods and monsters," Anisha admitted blushing.
"It's not a crime," Horus said with a smile. "I like the Egyptians way of thinking as much as you do."
"Really? Well I have a paper for my professor I need help on. Would you mind helping me?"
Horus thought for a while. He looked at his watch and finally gave Anisha is answer.
XxX
It was meant as a friendly gesture, but it grew into something more. They went to a café not too far from the park and talked for hours about anything BUT mythology. Soon it was almost time for the shop to close.
"I'll get that," Horus said as Anisha was about to pull out her wallet. He took out a hundred-dollar bill and gave it to the waiter. "Keep the change," Horus said.
"You're rich?" Anisha asked bewildered as they left the restaurant.
"You could say that," Horus said, blushing a little.
"Well thank you for a wonderful date."
"Date?" Anisha asked raising an eyebrow.
"You can call it something else if you want, sweetheart."
Normally Anisha wouldn't allow a guy to have a pass like that, but she knew Horus was joking…right?
"Yeah," Anisha said with a smile. "Whatever. Oh, before I forget…" She took out a pen from her purse and uncapped it. She wrote something on Horus's hand and returned the pen back to her bag. "My number," Anisha said when she saw the puzzled look on his face.
"You know, if you would like to finish explaining more about that mythology you promised me," Anisha laughed. They were only inches away from each other.
"I have to go, it's getting really late-"
Horus silenced her with a kiss.
At first she didn't know how to react, but slowly she eased into the kiss, as one became two, and two became three. When they finally parted, Anisha whispered, "I'm not fast, but you seem…different."
Horus only smiled and walked off. "I'll see you tomorrow then?"
Anisha thought for a while and said, "Sure, why not? You know where I am."
And with that, they walked away from each other.
