Wreck of the Day

Theme #19 Snap dragon/Deception

A/N: I wrote this while listening to Anna Nalick's Wreck of the Day - if you listen to it while reading this, it might help.

Disclaimer: If I owned Naruto, the Sand Sibs would have a last name.

Sabaku no Temari did not believe in love.

Not in the romantic sense anyway.

Then she met him.

And she almost changed her mind.

She almost revised her opinion.

For him. Because of him.

Almost.

Sabaku no Temari was never fooled.

But he fooled her.

He deceived her. And she let him.

Then she saw them together.

And she realized what a fool she had been.

She never let herself be fooled again.

Sabaku no Temari did not give up.

Wrapped up somewhere in her nindo was that declaration.

I never give up.

But seeing them together caused something to break within her.

This time, for the first time, she chose not to fight.

And to give up instead.

He had made his decision - and he didn't choose her.

Sabaku no Temari did not cry.

The desert had dried up any tears that she was likely to shed.

But she wasn't in Suna now.

She was in Konoha, watching the man she loved embrace another woman.

And she couldn't help the angry tears that welled up in her forest green eyes.

She blinked them back though, furious as she was.

She would not give them that satisfaction.

Sabaku no Temari did not make a scene.

She simply turned and walked away, leaving Shikamaru and Ino behind.

She kept walking, through Konoha until she was out of the village gates, then until she was out of the country itself.

She did not look back, she did not cry.

She just began making her way home, visions of snap dragons dancing in her head.

A/N: This was born out of a desire to write InoShikaTema (caused by ohwhatsherface's story, Getting Over It) and a newfound love for this song, Wreck of the Day.

Truth is, Sabaku no Temari is not her name and I'm quite aware of that but I used it here anyway because I think it aids the structure of the story, in terms of length. Reviews are appreciated!
