GLaDOS was furious. They had removed the Intelligence Dampening Core just to put a new one on.

She had been behaving just fine lately. She hadn't tried to kill anyone, the tests were doable to normal people, and she hadn't tried to harm anyone.

So, why did they put this new core on?

Her gears groaned in frustration. Doug Rattmann twitched in fear. He wasn't stupid, unlike the rest of them.

The head scientist looked up. He turned back to the monitor and smirked. This was a test if she would try to remove it herself, instead of asking for help.

* * Later * *

GLaDOS was unsure what this new core was supposed to do. It wasn't like the Intelligence Dampening Sphere, or asking questions about everything like the Curiosity Core, It wasn't reciting cake recipes like the Logic Core did these days, or snarl, hiss, and growl like the Emotion Core, or try to restrain her actions like the Morality Core. It said nothing. It did nothing. It disturbed her.

It had to come off. She refused to ask for help again, even from the Ratman.

"I can just pull them off." She muttered to the darkened room. "I don't know what the effects will be." She thought about it. "In the morning, I'll do it before they get here."

Doug Rattmann was surprised to hear GLaDOS laughing. It wasn't the insane you-should-run-for-your-life-before-she-locks-you-in-and-floods-the-room-with-neuortoxin-again kind of laugh that he had heard, and had run from, so many times. It sounded like Ms. Caroline had finally taken over.

He smiled. It faded as he saw why she was laughing. She had taken the new core off. He resisted sighing before sneaking over to the kill switch. There was a good hour for her to reboot and remember the after effects.

Still it was amusing seeing GLaDOS like that. Maybe if Ms. Caroline hadn't been so upset about this when she was put into GLaDOS, maybe this was what she would be like.

It was nearing the end of the work day when GLaDOS managed to trap him.

"If you tell anyone what you say, I will kill you in a very slow and painful manner." She said coldly.

He nodded. "I-I won't tell anyone or anything."

"Good."
