Chapter One: Surprises

Bella's POV

I'm Isabella Marie Swan but I prefer to be called Bella. I work in a publishing company in Seattle as an editor.

I lived most of my life in Forks which is a small town where I was born. I loved it there but I also wanted to live in a bigger place.

I really love my job but sometimes it could get kind of boring when I'm not busy. Then, my phone rang. I picked it up right away since I don't have much to do. "Hello?" I said. "Hey, honey! It's me. Are you busy?" mom said. "No, not really. Mom, what's wrong?" I said. "Oh, honey! Nothing is wrong but I have something very important to tell you. I hope you would be open-minded about this." she said. "Mom, you're sort of scaring me. What's this thing about?" I said. "Honey, remember our family friend, the Cullens? Well, Edward reminded us of an arrangement we agreed to with him." she said. "Mom, what arrangement are you talking about?" I said. I feel so scared and nervous at the same time. "Well, when you were both 13 he came to us to ask for your hand in marriage when you're ready. We agreed, thinking that it'll pass, that it's just a phase that he'll outgrow. But then he came to us last week and he asked about it again. He said that he's been watching you over the years and he still loves you and wants to marry you so we said that we're okay with it but you still get the final say. He agreed with it. He said he hasn't been on a date since then and that you're the only girl he has dated." mom said. Wow! I wasn't expecting that. That's so sweet of him. But am I ready for this? "Mom, I can't agree to that yet but I'll give him a chance." I said. "Oh, honey! I know you won't regret that decision. I can't believe that my baby is going to get married soon. I'll tell him right away. Sorry that I told you a week late but I was thinking of a way to say it so you won't freak out. Edward would be so happy." mom said. "Okay mom, I have to go. Say hi to dad for me." I said. "Okay, honey! Bye!" she said. Then, we hung up. I can't believe that Edward has been in love with me that long. We have been friends for a long time but he never mentioned it to me.

After the shocking phone call, the day was uneventful. I just continued my work. But there was something that was troubling me. I feel like I need to tell my best friends about all of this. Although, I think that Alice has an idea about this since she's Edward's twin sister. I decided that I'll call both of them to tell them of what I know about Edward's proposal and to ask for their advice on the matter.

I called them on conference call. I told them about everything. Rose was very surprised at first but then she suddenly said that she can't believe that Edward took this long to propose to me. Then, they told me that Edward has had a crush on me since we were kids and over the years his feelings for me grew deeper. I kind of found it hard to believe that something like that could actually happen in my life because I thought it only happened in books or in movies. "Bella, please give my brother a chance. Please! Then, the three of us would be sisters." Alice said. "Well, I already agreed to give him a chance. Mom told him about my decision since I lost contact with Edward." I said. After that we just caught up with each other's lives. Alice gave me his number so that I'll know how to call him.

When we hung up, I felt so tired so I just took a shower and got ready for bed since I already ate dinner before I called Alice and Rose. I can't wait to see Edward. I wonder how he's doing now. I guess that I'll just have to wait for him to contact me since I'm too afraid and nervous to contact him. I fell asleep that night dreaming about my childhood with Edward.
