I aimlessly looked at the neosteel wall.

I was heading to report myself in line of duty on a god-knows-where research facility.

It's not like I wanted to get into this mess. I was 20, and supposedly to spend the rest of my life here.

I sighed heartlessly. Since I was a minor criminal, the status avoided the fate of getting put in a mobile prison suit and being sent to the line of duty when the dawn breaks. By that, I mean be a marine, involuntarily, of course.

Instead, they sent me away to this facility, as a security guard until further notice.

"Better than getting my skull break open by one of them Zergs…" I assured myself.

It seems as if though my mind as on auto-pilot. I was in front of the Head of Security Office. I knocked, but no answer.

There were these old finger print ID locks to the side of the door. It seemed functioning. I playfully placed my thumb and rolled my eyes, because I was expecting it to reject my finger print.

Nope. It gave an approving beep, and opened the door. I stepped inside to find somebody sitting very relaxed on a chair, over looking at security camera feeds.

Whoever this guy was, he obviously didn't notice me. At least, that's what I thought to be. I approached him and tapped him on his shoulders. He made a grumbling sound, and waved me off.

I tapped him again on his shoulder.

He then said, "I told you to sit on that chair, son." His voice wasn't smooth or rough. I did what he told me.

He turned around. I could see his face. His face had a five o' clock shadow, and had a real tired look on his face. It seemed he needed sleep. Bad.

"Supposed you're our fresh one?" He asked me.

"Fresh..? I'm here to serve in a guard duty?" I replied.

"Freaking kid…" He trailed the sentence off and gave an airy laugh. "I didn't receive your profile yet, but those eggheads at the Dominion punched you in already, huh?"

I had no idea what in the hell he was talking about. I just went straight to the point.

"So… When will I be put into duty?"

"Now now… just hold on son. When I receive your profile, I'll assign you to your station. In the mean time, why don't you look around? It won't be too much time when I get your file."

"Fine… I'll do that."

I stepped away from his office. However, as soon as I stepped off, he called me back again.

"Whoa, whoa! Wait. I already got it right here. Let's see… received 16 hours ago… not important… Ah, ok. I see now. Alright, Daniel. You are to be station in….

WARNING! SECURITY BREACH IN STATION 1-15.

"Ah, what the hell is it now?" He brought the screen up. I sneaked a peek, and I could see about 5 gunmen, looking similar to marines, but not quite. They were shooting away their rifle.

Shit. First day of work, and already it gone done and freaked up.

"Kid, you and I have to go down there."

"But it's my first day!"

"I'm not taking any excuses! Here, grab this." He threw what it seemed like a gauss rifle, although much smaller than a combat gauss rifle.

"What the hell? This thing's diminutive!"

"Don't worry kid." He cocked his gun. I did the same. "Still effective. Now… Station 1-15 is not far away. We can still make it in time! Come on!" He ran out the office. I ran after him.

This is going to be interesting… If I don't get shot through the head first.
