I love crimson field, but this is my first fanfic so bear with me.
Disclaimer(Just a fan!)
It had been a long day for both of the surgeons, they were having some down time in their tent. Thomas had just lost a patient and it showed, it always did affect him more. Miles knew that many thousands of lives were lost at war and that many of them could not be saved.
"Did you know what was wrong with him?" Asked the Scottish surgeon, referring to the lost patient.
"I don't answer stupid questions." Stated Miles simply, in such a tone that it left both himself and Thomas wondering if he did know or he was just bluffing.
A smile had to play on Thomas's lips as he remembered that he was meeting Kitty in the woods in ten minutes. As he got up to leave he turned slightly and in a curious voice asked,
"Have you ever been in love Miles?" He waited for what seemed like an eternity for Miles to answer, the bustling army hospital outside made it almost impossible to hear the reply.
"I thought that we had established that I don't answer stupid questions." There was a certain sadness in his voice.
"Who was she?"
"She was out of my league, too good for me and she wouldn't let me stay when I was called to service." His voice was merely a croak now and his eyes puffy and red. He really must love her. Thomas's thoughts were plagued by the effect this girl had on Miles. As he neared Kitty she could sense that something was wrong just by the furrow in his brow. Her sweet voice floated out to him,
"What is it Tom? Darling what is it?" This was really worrying her now, she needed to know what troubled him. After a moment Tom seemed to smile and almost laugh,
"Miles once was in love, and it sounded pretty serious aswell!"
"Well…" said Kitty, "I never thought… maybe that is why he wants to constantly be with someone else. Do you think she broke his heart?"
"No, I think they just lost touch, he told me that she was 'out of his league'. Maybe she was a lady?" Tom questioned. Kitty didn't answer. Secretly they both loved the idea of Miles being helpless to the means of a woman. Their walk through the woods fell into a comfortable silence as it drew to a close, they had walked in a large circle. Just before they were to part Kitty grabbed Toms arm and almost whispered,
"Find out more." It was more of a request than a question. Tom nodded as they both headed back to their separate tents. That was the first time Miles had told him anything, but he must find out more.
So it's quite short but what do you think of the idea? 1 comment and I will update.(See how low my standards are.)
