A/N: Thranduil's wife and daughter are ones I made up. Don't review saying that Legolas had blonde hair; in my mind he has dark. *kicks movie!Legolas* Blasted blonde thing...

Naneth has not come to see me today. Neither has Adar. I wonder where they are, but I must stay here; Adar told me not to bother anyone unless it is an emergency.

So, I stay here; I look up at the walls of my room and wait for someone to come and get me.

The walls are forlorn; dark, cold, smooth rock. Other Elves may scorn my adar for living in caves and they are right. Caves are not very kind. They are frightful when not lit, older ones dripping and making strange noises. I do not like them. When I grow older, I shall go live somewhere else.

I am still waiting. I do not like waiting, it is very tedious. Why has not anyone come to get me? I am very hungry; I want my naneth.

Joy! The door is opening! My adar now stands in front of me. He looks tired but happy. I run up to him, I have no seen him since yesterday.

"Adar!" I squeal as he takes me in his arms. I am still small and my adar can still hold me. He is smiling and carried me out of my room and into the hallway.

The torches are twinkling merrily, like they are dancing. My adar is still smiling. Everything seems happy, but I do not know why.

"Little Araswen, I have a surprise for you," he says, and walks toward he and my naneth's room.

Other Elves are running all around. I recconize only one: Gwilwileth. She is my naneth's friend and very pretty; she likes to give me presents. I try and get her attention, but she only runs into my adar and naneth's room.

Adar follows her, and we enter his room. There are many elves in it, mostly ladies; Adar seems to be the only male. He shoos them out and I spot my naneth. She, like my adar is tired. She is lying in her great bed, a little bundle against her breast. This makes me become confused: what is it? What is in the blankets? Do I have a new toy?

Adar puts me down on the carpeted ground and I walk over to the bed. I greet my naneth and she smiles wearily. She unfolds the blankets and I see a wisp of dark hair. The blankets are unfurled more and I see a little baby, sleeping and looking very nice.

"Naneth, who is that?" I ask and my naneth smiles, but does not answer. I crane my neck closer to get a better look. The baby looks much like my naneth, with his dark hair and grey eyes. Not like my adar and I.

"This is your little brother, Legolas." Naneth says, gently handing over the bundle to me. The baby makes no sound when moved, just squirms. "Watch over him, and take care of him."

"Do not worry, Naneth, I shall." I say matter-of-factly, brushing my baby brother's face with a soft finger tip. He chuckles and smiles, "I shall always take care of you, my little brother." I murmur just to him, rocking him softly.
