Know Your Name
Your Name is Maka Albarn, What's Hers?
You sigh, and take another sip of your drink. It's only cranberry juice, but you think it completes your look nicely. Dressing up for lord death's fund raisers is always fun for you, but it annoys you that your partner Soul does not feel the same way. You look over at him, standing next to that Black Star guy, both of them have their shirts un-tucked, and ties askew as they stuff their faces with everything on the buffet table. What gentlemen. You are about to sigh once more when you notice something, someone is standing next to Black Star. A tall, slender girl, with an apologetic smile on her face, and long dark hair piled atop her head. Her eyes are so big, so blue, and her skin looks so smooth. You realize how creepy you must seem, but you can't stop yourself from looking. What is her name?
"Well, well" the sardonic voice startles you so much that you jump, color rushing to your cheeks as you realize you have been caught.
"Jeez, Kid! You scared me!"
He laughs "I see you have noticed Black Star's new partner"
"What's her name?" you mutter
"I am not sure about her first name, but she is a Nakatsukasa I believe" his golden eyes sparkle with amusement as you glance at her once again. She laughs, and you cant help but smile. "She's beautiful"
"Well I'm glad you have your eye on someone, I was starting to worry you would take soul away from me. Speaking of soul, I should go get him, the dancing is going to start soon." he moves to leave, but you stop him, tugging on his sleeve
"Wait, Kid!" you bite your lip, suddenly all of your legendary resolve seems to have left you, but you press on anyways, this is important "Since you are going over there, could you, if I write a note, would you give it to her?"
Several minutes later, you are feeling quite discouraged. Your note asked the girl to meet you here, at the edge of the dance-floor, but it has been almost half an hour and there is no sign of her. You stare out at the dancing couples, eyes clouded with jealousy. It wont be long until the beat slows down, and all of these couples will be staring lovingly into each-others eyes, satisfied to have met their match. You, on the other hand didn't even manage to get her name, and now that beautiful girl is just going to slip away, maybe she has already. Accepting your defeat, you sigh.
There is a soft tap on you shoulder. You whirl, expecting to see kid having appeared behind you again. For once, you are delighted at how wrong you are. The dark haired girl is standing there, only a few feet away, smiling ever so shyly. "Hey"
"Hey" you reply, doing your best not to grin like an idiot. "I'm Maka."
Before she can reply, the two of you are distracted by the slowing of the music, the lights grow dim, and you smile. "Let's dance"
She smiles back at you "I'd love to. Oh, and my name is Tsubaki."
"Tsubaki" you repeat "I like it. Its beautiful, just like you"
She giggles, blushing ever so slightly as you take her hand, and lead her into the whirling maze of couples, glad for once to be a part of it.
