That One
"Tsukimori-kun has expressions?"
"Of course."
"You mean apart from his irritated look?"
"Yes already."
"Hee...which is (do you like) best then?"
"...huh?"
Having arrived at the birthday party, Len had initially wondered what it was that made him come. One look at a certain someone and he knew why. It was because she'd asked him. It was out of the blue and he'd reacted with a nod. And so now, here he was. A mere acquaintance to the celebrant who'd welcomed him anyway.
After giving his greetings to Faith, he stood beside Kaho observing the people and her. Mostly her.
"That looks good on you." Compliments weren't his usual thing but he felt no difficulty in relaying this to her.
"Eh? Ah. Th-thanks." Len gives her a small smile. Kaho stared, in awe of it. Remembering Nami's earlier question, she answered without thinking, "That's the one."
"Hmm?"
"When you smile."
It disappears into a confused frown.
"Ah. No, don't. I like it. It's...it's like receiving a treat somehow." Len stares. "Ah. Not that the faces you make when teaching me aren't good. I mean I also like you being serious," she continues. "Hmm, but…yeah, I like you best when you smile."
"..." Len wasn't sure what to say.
It took that silence for Kaho to realize what she'd just said. Eyes going wide, her face flushing, she stammered, "Ah! I'm sorry. I said something embarrassing. Please forget I said anything!" Kaho instinctively tried to cover her face.
Len wouldn't let her. "It's okay," he said as he pulled her hands away. "You're the same."
"Eh?" Her confusion made him give a small grin.
"Seeing you smile. I...like it too." Kaho's eyes went wide. She tried to make eye contact as Len looked away, embarrassed. Her hands gripped his (he hadn't yet let go).
"You do?"
Sighing as he tried fighting down the blush he could feel creeping on his face, he explained, "…when your heart is in it. Especially then." Kaho tips her head in question at Len who feels that that didn't explain much. "I mean that, you express what you really feel when you do. Smile."
"Oh." Kaho felt elated somehow. She smiles a happy one at him. "Thank you."
Len blushes but this time he doesn't look away and even gives her another small smile. Kaho thinks then that this face is good too. Definitely worth remembering always.
