In the depths of space two ships shot through the darkness. One was badly damaged and headed for a blue and green planet; the other was following closely. The damaged ship crashed in a desert and exploded, creating a crater and scattering its contents. The other landed at the impact site a while later.
A few miles away a curious bobcat sniffed at a strange egg. The egg opened, slowly, at the top. Before the feline could react a multi-legged alien creature leapt out and attached itself to the cat's face. Elsewhere, similar scenes took place among a pack of coyotes and a mountain lion.
At the crash site armored humanoids exited the second craft and spread out around the crater. Their armed appearance gave them the look of hunters, but their behavior was more like a predator stalking its prey.
