A/N: Please bear with me! I am trying to take on Dobby's brain, which seems very simplistic. Therefore, this will be short. I appreciate you reading it! Thanks!

Dobby smiled in content as he picked up yet another hat from the Gryffindor Common Room. Dobby loved cleaning up for Gryffindor for this reason—he loves getting new clothes. Ever since Harry Potter freed Dobby, Dobby couldn't get enough of hats and socks.

Instead of adding the new knitted hat to his collection, Dobby held the hat to give as a present. Dobby knew Winky has been very sad lately, and he hoped that the pink cap could make her happy. Pink is Winky's favorite color.

Dobby skipped out of the commons into the big castle. Hogwarts has become home for him. He was well taken care of and had somewhere to sleep. Dobby even got paid one Galleon! Sometimes, Dobby hit his head to make sure it isn't a dream.

Dobby made it to the familiar fruit picture and began to tickle the pear. The secret door knob appeared and Dobby made his way inside to Winky.

Winky sat next to the fire with another butterbeer in her hand. What a disgrace! She is making a fool of herself in front of all her friends. What will people think?

"Hey Winky!" Dobby chattered happily. Winky looked up from the fire. Her eyes looked droopy and she frowned a lot. This didn't make Dobby happy, but Dobby was determined to make Winky glad. "I got you something!"

Winky looked down at the pink hat in Dobby's hand. Winky's eyes went really wide and her mouth gaped open. "You are trying to give me a hat?" she screamed. "I don't want that!"

Dobby became really sad. "Why don't you want the hat? If you are free, Dumbledore can offer you pay to! Then we can be free elves!" Dobby doesn't understand why Winky likes to be a slave. It's not like Dobby stopped serving; he just doesn't have a master now.

Winky took another sip of her drink and set it down. Dobby could tell she is angry. "I don't want to be like you! Do you know what people say about you? Do you know what they say about me for being friends with you? What you are isn't right. It isn't natural. Not normal. Not…" Winky started crying to a point where she couldn't stop. Dobby went to go comfort his friend to make her feel better.

Winky's tears slowed down to a point where she could talk. She looked up at Dobby with big eyes. "Dobby, we can't be friends anymore. I don't believe in free elves. You don't belong with us." Winky started sobbing again, but Dobby didn't comfort her this time.

Dobby went up to his bed to lie down. Dobby didn't understand why his fellow elves didn't want to be free. How could they not want their rights? All of it didn't make sense to Dobby. He hoped one day they would see like he did. But, until then, all Dobby can be is a freak.
