"Tell me a story" by moonswirl
Disclaimer: I don't own this, blah blah...
Summary: The story of a young girl and her 'imaginary friend'... or is it? COMPLETE
"Tell me a story Sammy," the four-year-old girl asked the man standing in the corner of her room as she rested in her bed, weak from the fever she'd been battling. "Tell me about the Queen and the King in the Red Castle."
"Again? I did it just this morning," he smiled.
"But I like it. The Queen's pretty."
"She w... she is. How do you know that?"
"I see her in my head," she shrugged her tiny shoulders, making the frills on her Minnie Mouse nightgown shake. "Please? I promise I'll sleep after. I won't get up until morning."
"Very well," he sighed with a smile. He couldn't deny her, such power over him in that frail frame of hers. She giddily settled back in the covers and squeezed her eyes shut, awaiting her favorite story, the one he'd first told her that night he'd come to stand in that same spot and introduced himself to her. That was a month ago, though she didn't have enough perception of time to know that.
When she'd told her parents about him, they'd soon filed it as an imaginary friend of their young daughter. She knew he was real though, and that was good enough for her. She didn't tell anyone else.
"Sammy" took a breath or two before launching into the story... the one his audience of one had no idea had been true, though slightly reworded.
"Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there was a Red Castle where a fair King and a beautiful Queen loved each other very much. The King had been sent to her, to protect her and guide her. At first that was all it was, a duty he'd accepted, and he carried it out just as he'd been taught to. But... the King fell in love with her, and she with him. The King's teachers weren't happy with that, and they ordered him not to surpass what his duty called for again or they'd send him far from the Queen and he'd never see her again."
"Oh no..." the wee girl put on a mighty pout, even though she knew the rest of the story. The teller smiled.
"But they couldn't stay apart. So while they still fought the occasional monster, secretly they would take walks under the full moon, away from where they could be caught." His listener was very happy with that. "And later on, they had their own little Princess..." He stopped suddenly, looking up at the ceiling. She looked as well, sitting up. "I have to leave you now, I don't think I'll be able to come back."
"No, you can't!" she cried loudly, tears spilling over on her pale cheeks. "Come back! Sammy, come back! Please! Come back! Sammy!" she cried as he disappeared in a cloud of white lights. She ran for the spot where he'd stood. "Come back, PLEASE!" she called out, loud sobs and heavy tears overtaking the shaking girl. Her parents ran in to find her standing crying in the middle of her room.
"Sweetie, what's wrong?" her mother had asked as her father carried her to the bed and hugged her.
"H-he's... he... he's gone!" she sniffled.
"Who is?" She told them everything and after they told her it was just a dream, they comforted her a bit more before leaving her to sleep. But still, for a while repeated again and again, even while sleeping...
"Sammy, come back... Please come back Sammy..."

"Paige, wake up," Piper Halliwell shook her sister's shoulder.
"What?" she stirred... Had it all been a dream?
END
