Ever since Rory started Yale she felt as if she had finally found her place in the world. At home, she was always happy and she fit right into the world that is Stars Hollow, but she was always "Lorelai's girl." She had never been able to truly discover herself.

And for the first time since she was 16 years old she was without a boyfriend. It really gave her a lot of time to think about her life. Between exams and papers anyway.

"Ugh, I though this was supposed to be an easy class," Rory said to nobody in particular.
She was referring to her intro psychology course. Though she'd never been one to take the easy road, she still thought it might be a good idea to take an easy class to lighten her course load. And it was apparently going to bite her in the ass.

Of course this is Rory we're talking about here, so "biting her in the ass" meant that she got a B- on her first exam. Since most of the class had done much worse than Rory, their professor had agreed to let them be research subjects in the psychology research department for extra credit. Rory was all over that option.

Rory was kind of nervous as she was waiting for her first experiment a few days after she'd gotten her test back. She had no idea what was waiting for her behind that door.

"Fist time?" Rory snapped out of her thought of what might happen to her and looked at the girl sitting across the waiting room.

"Uh, yeah." She smiled.

"No need to worry, I do these things all the time."

"Oh, I'm not worried." Rory smiled nervously again. "Well, maybe a little. What do they make you do in there?" she asked pointing to the door.

"Oh, nothing too hard, usually they make you fill out some questionnaires or do some silly computer task, like, 'if this is a real word, press the 'z' key, if not press the '/' key.' That kind of thing. They're all pretty simple."

Just then, a young guy, probably in his mid-twenties poked his head out from behind the dreaded door. "Are either of you Jolene?"

"Yep, that's me." She looked at Rory, "Well, good luck, maybe I'll see you around."

"Yeah, maybe. Have fun." Jolene disappeared.

Ten minutes passed and Rory was starting to think she'd been stood up by her experimenter. She pulled out a book and started reading. She'd completely immersed herself when a voice brought her back to reality.

"Hey, are you still waiting?" Rory looked up to see Jolene coming out from the experiment area.

"Yeah, I think they forgot about me."

"That sucks. Hey, do you want to go grab a bite or something? My treat!" She holds up her newly acquired ten dollar bill.

"Oh, no, I couldn't."

"I insist. Come on, it'll be fun..I'm sorry, I don't even know your name. Mine's Jolene."

"Yeah, I caught it before. My name's Rory."

"Cool name. I've never met a Rory before."

"It's actually short for Lorelai. My mom named me after herself.long story."

"Wicked, I'd love to hear it some time. I've never met a Lorelai before either though. So, Shall we?"

"Uh, okay, as long as you're sure you don't mind." She smiles shyly at her new friend and they head off in the direction of the Student Union.
