A Goodbye

As Harry left King's Cross, his eyes were drawn to a laughing boy walking his dog.

He wished time would stop, and leave him with this one happy image--and in the same instant, he wished everything would speed by so fast he didn't have to be a part of it any longer.

He felt the Dursleys pause behind him. "Boy!" It was Uncle Vernon. "What are you gawking at?"

"Nothing," he lied.

The Dursleys strode to their car. Harry knew Moody, Lupin, and the Weasleys still lingered in the station. He felt a great wrench; he wanted to be back with them, and he wanted to be alone.

Something tightened inside his throat as he watched the dog run circles round the laughing boy.
