The First Night
Trance could hear him screaming, she had just met the boy today, he wasn't much older than her,
and she had hoped they could be friends. She felt his pain every time he yelled, "why does he yell
like that?" she asked her new captain Beka Valentine.
"He, had it hard" said Beka looking down the hall and frowning.
"How so?" asked Trance, she was confused again.
"He lived on earth for 20 years, and a lot of bad things happened to him" Beka looked at the little
girl.
Trance's tail fell to the floor, "Is that why he sleeps in the day time?"
"Yeah, that and he doesn't do well around people,"
Trance smiled. "Well maybe he just needs a friend to be with him in his hard times"
"What?" Beka raised an eyebrow.
Trance simply smiled and turned around walking down the hall to the crew bunks, she could see
the boy tossing and turning in his bunk, letting out small yelps and screams, his eyes were also wet.
Trance slanted her head to the side, then quickly popped it back up and smiled, she lifted her self
up to his bunk and laid next to him, she wrapped he tail around a poll to balance herself, she
brushed the stray hairs off his forehead, as the boys eyes shot open with fear.
"W.... what are you...do-doing here?" Said the scared boy.
"You screamed and you were crying." Trance stroked his head again.
"Nightmares, my own little demons" He was starting to calm down.
Trance smiled slightly "No one should have to be alone with those." She laid her head on the
pillow. "You sleep, I'll watch over you."
He looked at her as if studding her, soon his eyes slowly drifted shut. Trance watched as the
dream formed, she uses what power she could and grabbed the dream from his head. Before she
got rid of it she glanced at it, what she saw brought a tear to her eye, she saw why he would
scream so...there were Magog killing - eating, this was no dream it was a memory. Trance felt
awful, the poor boy; at that moment she vowed to never let him dream those things again.
Trance slowly drifted to sleep and when she woke the next day he was gone off working on
something.
