He could tell because he had already passed the Kangaskan Rock, and made it a few more floors down in the cave.
"Soon..." The Lucario breathed. "Soon I'll be able to make my wish."
He sped off, hoping that the next floor down would be the last floor. Then he could finally meet the wishmaker.
Down into the next floor, all he could see was crystals jutting out from the walls of what seemed to be a long hallway.
He followed the path set before him, and not long, he seen a light at the end of the tunnel and moved towards the light, until he was finally inside a room with nothing but crystals all over the walls and corners of the floor.
But that is all he seen.
Jirachi was not present. It's possible that he never really was here. Lucario felt his spirit fall, his shoulders slump, and his mouth curl into a frown.
Lucario didn't know what to do. He traveled very far, only to find nothing? Surely that couldn't be true. There had to be something he could do.
Besides, if he didn't get his wish, the life of his mate would be in jeopardy.
"Jirachi! Wish maker, I know you're here! Please, appear before me!"
Nothing.
"Jirachi, please! I need your help!" He called out again.
This time, there was a response.
"What do you need of me, weary traveler?"
Followed by that voice came a small flash of light and then there it was. Jirachi.
Lucario was surprised. He didn't even think that that would work, but he had to forget his feelings. A matter of grave importance was at hand, and he had to make his wish.
"Jirachi, I have a wish.. Will you please hear it?"
Jirachi floated around wistfully and smiled."Sure! What is it?"
Lucario didn't let Jirachi's behavior affect him. His wish was more important than that.
"I wish to have my mate cured of her illness."
"Hmm.. Okay! But you have to fight me first!"
Lucario prepared his stance and with determination in his voice said "I understand."
Jirachi let out a chuckle and then proceeded to use double team.
Lucario could easily fell this though. He countered with foresight and then used brick-break to hopefully lower Jirachi's defenses.
Jirachi still had it's cheerful face when it then used psychic on Lucario, and given him a moderate amount in damage.
It may have seemed like moderate damage, but Lucario was still weakened from his trip down here.
With little energy left, Lucario had charged up his energy, preparing to fire off an aura sphere, but Jirachi had seen this and had used another psychic attack.
Lucario did get hurt, but he kept his focus. His determination was too great, he couldn't lose this, he had to put every thing in this one shot.
He fired it off, and it hit Jirachi with great force, and finally, the wish maker was down. However, to Lucario's dismay, it got back up and chuckled.
"Wow! You sure are determined. She must mean a lot to you."
Lucario panted. "Of course! We plan to spend the rest of our lives together!"
Jirachi smiled. "I see.. Then I'm ready to give you your wish."
It wasn't that Lucario's promise to his mate had won over Jirachi. It was something entirely different.
It was the fact that Lucario was willing to give every thing he had just to have his wish made.
With a flash of light, Jirachi was gone, but a voice was heard saying "You can go home now! I've made your wish, and it should be fulfilled!" followed by that same chuckle he heard during their battle.
Lucario just stood there. He felt relief, joy, and exhaustion flood over him all at once, and his legs had felt like they would give way any second now.
With the little bit of energy he had, he turned to the exit, and made it as far as the tunnel, and then collapsed on the floor.
No one heard from him again.
