Pain is an Illusion
As Conan walked down the street to Agasa's to visit Ai the rain lightly started falling. He speed up a bit, not wanting to be caught in the storm and get soaking wet.
He arrived water dripping off his jacket from what he'd tried to avoid. He looked around and could tell that Agasa went out. He kicked off his shoes and put on slippers, quitely walking toward Ai's room, hoping to peek in and see if she was there, and what she was doing.
To his great surprise, her door was open a crack with Haibara inside, what looked like crying. He carefully opened the door as to not to draw her attention. To his relief she hadn't noticed. He walked over to her and sat down, then drawing attention from the tear streaked face.
"What do you want Kudo?" Ai asked trying to sound as she normally did, and to try and cover up the fact she had been crying.
"Well, I just came over to check up on you. Agasa left, didn't he? Either way, why were you crying?"
"I wasn't crying" she said, lamely trying to convince him.
"Yes you were Haibara." Conan said not taking a word she said. She already knew she has lost, even though she hated to admit it. He had spied on her, and snuck in without her noticing, and she knew he wouldn't leave her only for the next few weeks, ever if she did get it together. She sighed.
"Kudo, if pain is an illusion, what is this in my heart?
"What is this feeling, that I feel. When I think about Akemi...and you and Mouri-San," she said the last bit with him not able to hear, "why would I feel this way if it does not exsist? What do I do to make it go away..." she trailed off with her bangs covering her eyes, and another tear slowly made it's way down her face.
To her surprise, she suddenly felt warm and secure looking up to see Conan with his arms around her, holding her tight, with her starting to wish that he'd never let go.
"Ai-Chan...sadly, it might never go away," he said a tenderly depressed look in his eyes "what it is, is love. You loved your sister who had been killed unreasonably. It's part of life. Your life...it's not fair to you. You are a caring person, who may not always act it...but you are. You've gone through hard times, but you still lived through hell. Maybe you lived, because you were destined to live a new life. Maybe I shrunk, because I was destined to live a new life. It's not your fault Haibara. Everything happens for a reason, and you creating the drug only happened because we were meant to meet and become friends. If we keep running away from destiny, we'll be running forever..." he stopped and looked at Haibara. 'Maybe...maybe I'm supposed to stop running now.' he thought. He then made up his mind. He thought back to all those times with Haibara, thinking that everyday spending with her, made him love her as a friend more and more, until finally it reached pass that. Ran had almost given up on the hope with Shinichi returning, and he knew it would be better for her to move on now, then living the rest of her life waiting. He couldn't do that to her, when she could find someone better.
He slightly let go, reaching his hand to Haibara's chin, lifting it up and lightly kissing her at first unsure if he had chosen correctly. He decided that he couldn't go back now and deepened the kiss lightly. Haibara was shocked, but then understood.
She would stop running right now with Conan.
