The Half-Breed

"You are just useless you are a disappointment to the whole family and the clan. I can believe your even my child" An older women with brown hair like mud and deep blue eyes that looked like the sea on a stormy day, stood over a little girl about the age of 7. The young girl had deep brown almost black hair, she had light skin and eyes with deep blue flecks stared up at her mother, pain written in her eyes. "God how I hate your eyes, those disgusting eyes, just like your father" she says the word like it is fire and it burns her tongue to even say it. She raises her hand and brings it down not giving the little girl a chance to brace herself. The blow catches girl on the cheek sending her flying across the room and slamming her into the wall. Just as she hits the wall, the door swings open a man with grey hair in his early 60's. He stands in the door way looking at the mother with disappointment clear in his moss coloured eyes, he then turns his attention to the 7 year old and in his eyes he shows love for her and pain, pain he didn't get to her in time to stop the blow to her fair face which he knows will be deep purple tomorrow, said little girl looks up her face already deep red, her lip bleeding as well as her head were it hit the wall, her stormy eyes which were filled with pain and hopelessness are now filled with equal love but the hope that left her eyes and her heart so long ago and know brimming with it, hope that her granddad will help unlike the rest of the family that now don't even blink an eye at the bruises, blood and shouting, some even join in on the mental and physical abuse, no one cares for her let alone love her but maybe, just maybe her granddad would. He walks over to her slowly eyes only on her he carefully touches her head, she flinches, he says in a soft caring voice he says "hey baby girl can you stand for me" she gives a weak smile even as pain courses through her body "Yea grandpa I will try." There is silence as she sluggishly attempts to get up, the silence is broken when her mother looks at the older man, "How can you help her, that filthy little half breed" there is malice in her voice. The old man looks away from Shona momentarily to look at his daughter with cold eyes "That filthy little half breed is you daughter just as you are mine do you think I would treat you like this or if your mother was still here she would" he sees Shona stumble but pulls her into his arms, moving faster that a man of his age should be able to. He starts for the door. "Where do you think you're going with her bring her back" the women says before her father and daughter are completely out of view. He casts a fleeting look at her, Shona having fell asleep in his arms "you do not deserve this little girl she is a miracle and she will be great, and I will not leave my granddaughter in this hell you call a home just so you and the rest of the family can hurt her. I must say my goodbye now we will leave the family and never be back and Mary remember this however late this may be that it was not you daughters fault, she did nothing wrong and you didn't have to take out your pain and anger on her." He turns walking away not looking back only looking at the little girl in his arms, he will teacher her as best he can, he will be her family because the family rejected her because she was different, she always would be but maybe she will find others who were different not in the same way but all the same people who would welcome her and look out for her when he is gone. He wouldn't come back and nether would she.
