You have fallen; you are now gone.
Gone from heaven, gone from the home of stars.
You can't go back at dawn.
You are now here in France.
Les Amis have welcomed you with open arms.
They see you as one of their own.
Together, you shout: "Viva la France"!
But they don't know your wings are gone.
I can see it in your eyes.
I know that you want to go home.
Living amongst the stars, it must be nice.
But please stay here, at least until tomorrow.
Give us a chance to prove that it's not all bad;
Children of the barricade may yet succeed.
You are the only happiness I've ever had.
If you go, my heart will bleed.
It will bleed like your wings bled,
When I found you that day on the sidewalk.
My cravat was all I've had.
And I was so entranced I couldn't talk.
But I stopped the blood flow with my cravat.
And you woke up and smiled at me.
That was the day you seared yourself onto my heart.
And that is how we came to be.
And now I guess I know why;
Why you wanted to go back home.
I just wish I had a chance to say goodbye
To the France that I would never know.
