MORE TO HER
AUTHOR'S NOTE/DISCLAIMER
One-shot that resides in my "Tick Tock Combat" reality. Life With Derek belongs to Canadian Television and Disney. Power Rangers belongs to Haim Saban and Nickelodeon. I only own the plot. Takes place near the end of Season 1 of LWD. I'm using a phrase that was in the original series.
There was definitely more to Casey MacDonald than Derek Venturi realized at first. Yeah, she was a keener and a klutz, but at the same time, she seemed to possess some sort of inner strength. Not to mention that he was almost positive that the Klutzilla routine was just that: a routine. Whatever secret she carried, it seemed like Edwin knew what it was. However, no amount of persuasion or intimidation could get his younger brother to fess up to what he knew, which irritated Derek…a lot. Edwin was his younger brother. What good was he if he didn't spill their stepsisters' secrets? With a sigh, Derek came downstairs to find Casey on the couch, talking to someone. All of a sudden, she burst out laughing.
"Jesse, you're so bad! That's terrible!" she stated. "Baby, you always know how to make me laugh," she continued. Baby? Derek thought. Spacey has a boyfriend? his thought continued. "So, how was the tournament?" she asked. She listened for a moment. "What? That's totally morphinominal!" she exclaimed. Morphinominal? What does that mean? Derek wondered. "I knew you could do it." Then, as they continued talking, Derek went into the kitchen to grab a bite to eat. He heard her laugh again. Then, "So, what's been going on back home?" There was a moment of silence and Derek had to wonder if whoever Casey was talking to had hung up on her. "No way! They actually did that? Man, they're so stupid!" What? That's not like her, Derek thought to himself as he dished out a bowl of ice cream. "Yeah, well, things here are pretty much the same. Going to school, fending off the guys, fighting with Derek…I miss home," he heard her say. Curious, he turned back towards the living room. He saw her stretch out on the couch and sigh wistfully. "I miss the youth center, and sparring and training…I miss having classes with you guys. I just miss it all." The person she was talking to said something and she smiled softly. "Yeah, I know you guys do. It's just-it's so hard being here and not having my backup, you know?" she continued. Once again, there was silence on her end. "Yeah, well, Edwin and Marti are okay, but Derek hates me." Derek's jaw dropped. Hate her? She really thought he hated her? Yeah, he had been upset that her family had moved in, but that was just because he wasn't good with change. It didn't mean he hated her. "Not that I care. I mean, it's not like he's one of us," she went on. His brows furrowed. What'd she mean by that? She was silent for a while. "Yeah, well-" whatever she was about to say was cut off by a six-tone beep. What the-? Is something wrong with her watch? Derek wondered. "Hold on," Casey said into the phone and then hung up and ran up the stairs. What was that all about? he wondered again. yeah, there was definitely more to his stepsister than she let on, and he was going to do his best to find out what.
