Max's POV
My eyes fluttered open, going for pitch dark to sudden, dazzling white light. I felt kind of like you do when you're sleeping peacefully and then your mom comes in and turns on the light right by your face. Not that I would know. Anyway, I tried to stand, groggily, and just fell down again. My legs felt like...well...nothing. I couldn't feel them. My eyes still hadn't adjusted correctly. I reached up to rub them, but my arms couldn't move either. I could feel then, but they were just strapped down. "Max?" I heard a soft whisper. I ignored it. What the hell was going on? "Max?" God, my head was throbbing, I couldn't see, I couldn't stand, and my arms were strapped down. What else could go wrong? "MAX?" I shook my head, startled. Then I recognized the voice, and face that went along with it. "What Gazzy?" I murmured. He was right up in my face, really close, which I guess is good because I couldn't exactly see that much. He was wearing a white hospital gown and small, light green slippers. "Do you want me to rub your eyes for you?" he whispered. "Uh, what? Yeah, yeah. Please," I gurgled out. His small fists dug gently into my eyelids. A couple seconds later, it stopped. "There," he said softly. I blinked. Finally! I could see! God, this is not what I wanted to see.
The Flock, besides me and Gazzy, were all laying unconcious on metal platforms. The floors were a cold, white tile and so were the walls. I couldn't even see the ceiling, thats how high it went. And the lights. God, the lights. It was like someone decided to relocate the Sun right into the room I was in. It wasn't a very big room either. Just big enough for the metal platforms, one for each of us, and a little tiny area just big enough to stand in. There was a door on one of the walls, too. Cold, stainless steel with a little mail flap at the bottom. Oh, and did I mention that my hands were strapped to the wall? I had a little slack on each arm, maybe six inches? They were handing at equal height to my shoulders. Therefore, my hands were asleep. Lovely.
I'm guessing you probably figured out where we were by now. Gazzy and I did. By the looks of our room, our clothes (all just like Gazzy's, but in out sizes, thankfully), and how we were being treated, we thought of the only place that would logically fit this description. The School.
