Tobias POV!

I stand with my arms cross next to Lauren. The band of new initiates should be coming soon, that's what Tori said.

"I wonder who will jump first this year." exclaims Lauren. She says it in her usual heavy voice, it always sounds like she's trying to interrogate you or something.

"Obviously some dauntless born." says some man I didn't recognize, he says it with disgust and you could tell he was once a transfer. I stay silent with my jaw clutched shut. I just want this to be over with, I'm not very patient. After what that boy said, there was a silence between all of us, and I like it that way.

"Ok, the first should be jumping in a few seconds, so stay focused; I want to scare the shit out of these kids." Remarks Lauren, like that's the think she's most exited for.

Then after only 3 seconds, you could hear a deafening scream, and the first initiate has jumped. Gray. That's the color that hit the giant net, gray. Abnegation! I was trying so hard to not let my jaw drop to the floor, even though every else in the room has already let there's.

I lent the girl my hand, and she clasps it, firm but still elegantly. You could tell she was unsteady, from the way she almost fell off the large net, but got onto her two feet with a bit of my help. She was short, only around five feet, and at first all I could see was the top of her blond head, but the moment she looked up, my heart started pounding 2 times as fast. She wasn't pretty, no, but she was amazing, I have never seen eyes so deep and focused or lips angular but still small. She wasn't curvy, or embellished in any way. But she was so beautiful, so focused, so prepared for the world she had entered. And she took my breath away.

"Can't believe it," Lauren says, breaking my trance, "A stiff, the first to jump? Unheard of."

"That's the reason she left them, Lauren" I snap back, still not able to say abnegation but only 'them', from the pain that rises in my chest whenever I think of them. This girl is going to be a pain for all of those memories. "What's your name?" I ask her, trying to hide my astonishment that a stiff like her jumped first.

"Umm..." she started to say something, but withheld, and you could tell the color rushed to her face, like she was rethinking her abnegation name.

A small smile creped to the corner of my lips, "Think about it, you don't get to choose again."

"Tris." She says firmly, but still astounded by her new, dauntless name.

"Tris," Lauren repeats. "Make the announcement Four!"

"First jumper- Tris!" I announce. A sudden wave of ecstasy rushes through my body, but I battle to hide it from my face. I'm still trying to look firm and strict. The crowd cheers like the regular group of dauntless mad men. But I ignore all of that for my chance to put my hand on Tris's back. A say to her in a slight whisper, but loud enough for anyone to hear, "Welcome to dauntless."
