On the eve of April Fool's Hogwarts was in excitement. The children were planning pranks and tricks on their friends and professors, mostly using knickknacks picked up at Hogsmeade. A few brave souls had constructed large and convoluted plots in order to top the Weasley twins. Whatever they were planning was being kept tightly under wraps and the school was buzzing with theories, waiting for the next morning and the big reveal.

Except it didn't come in the morning.

The wide-eyed excitement met disappointing looks in the hallways, even Peeves was behaving. Whenever the twins walked into their classrooms students would stir and peek, waiting for it, but it never came. By the end of the class period when nothing had happened the teachers were too suspicious to even approach Fred and George's desk, eyeing them with mistrust.

They looked just like angels with the little halos they made to float above their heads.

Come lunchtime no one would sit with them. The entire Gryffindor House left two empty tables between themselves and the Weasley twins. Lunch became a coordinated dance of arms as they all tried to eat with ten to a table to accommodate the lost space. Even the Slytherins left the table closest to the twins empty, choosing instead to sacrifice a little room for their safety.

Meanwhile, the twins took over their table with one sitting on each side and their bags on the table. They didn't even bother with plates, just stabbed their forks and spoons right into the food.

In the hallways, people were giving the twins a wide berth. When Neville dropped his quills after rounding a corner to find himself face-to-face with Fred and George they picked them up for him and held them out for Neville to take.

He ran away instead.

That night in their dormitory no one could sleep, all were waiting for the big reveal. For the chaos, the destruction, the distractions. All were worried that they were the target.

They were all right.

At 11:59 on April Fool's Day Fred and George Weasley sat up in their bed and declared, "Happy April Fool's you fools!"

And nothing happened.
