A Broken Man
[Poem; FF7]
On the edge of a glittering river, in a sacred and beautiful place
A tragedy occurred, leaving a man with tears on his face.
Such a tragedy seemed misplaced in such a place of heavenliness
That it could leave him to sigh with such heaviness.
She was robbed of a life of happiness, by a single stroke
Her life ebbed away, slowly dissipating like smoke.
And he stood, waist deep in the shining water, sorrow overtakes
Making him look back on all those awful mistakes.
His fault he thought it was, despite her insistences and kind words
He knew he would never again hear her voice rise in joyous chords.
He was a broken man.
His eyes dull, face stained with tears
He looked down at his greatest fears.
A body in his arms, skin pale even for its normal ivory hue
It seemed as if it was fake, as if she would awake to life anew.
Moving on was harder than he could have thought.
Her revenge was now what he sought.
Sephiroth was now all he could see.
"I will kill the one who took her from me."
So into the Crater he did go, to vanquish that man.
Conquer he did that sneering face, but he still felt like a broken man.
He was a man on the mend.
Now years after the fight, his fault he thought it was still.
How could he forget the night she was killed?
His dreams fitful and restless,
All he needed was a little forgiveness.
But all he could see was her pale cold face,
With its smile still oddly in place.
But in his dreams she did appear,
She smiled at him, and held him near.
A few words where all she spoke, and she gave him a task.
"You needn't ask me to forgive, it is yourself whom you must ask."
He was a mended man.
He now could smile, and laugh with the others.
It was like a great weight was lifted from his shoulders.
He still felt sad that they couldn't be together,
But he knew that their separation wasn't forever.
One day he would see her again,
And things would go back to the way they began.
And he could finally tell her,
All of the things he wanted to tell her.
And they could both laugh and be filled with love,
While dancing on clouds in the world above.
He was a happy man.
