I don't own Hetalia or the Hunger Games. Song: Hanging Tree. All rights go to the Hunger Games francise and Hetalia. My first story here, please don't hate. The theme is dark and there are deaths.

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
They strung up a man
They say who murdered three.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree. -Hunger Games

There was a reason you should never fall in love with a pirate. I should have known better, because falling in love with a pirate, was like falling in love with a dead man.

Sure enough my pirate had been caught. In the United Kingdom there was one penalty for pirates. Death. There was no other choice. Even if you were taken by pirates you were tried as one. Unless, you knew someone higher up.

Captain Arthur Kirkland was being tried today, and I, had to stand witness to the horror laid before me. There my love was, as he dragged from his cell. I would have stopped them. I should have begged. Alas, I was weak, like always. I was nothing but a coward as I watched them drag him out to the center of town. They threw him down into the dirt. No one heard my gasps. These people were all too focused on the murder they would soon be able to see. They were all too busy being excited about watching another execution. After all, what was more amazing then seeing Captain Kirkland being hung?

My mouth filled with the sour taste of hatred as I looked over the people in the crowd. None of them stood to close to me. My two guards and my butler wouldn't allow anyone to approach me anyways.

"We have gathered here to witness the hanging of Captain Kirkland. He has been charged with piracy, the killing of three royal men, and the kidnapping of Prince Francis Bonnefoy of France. " The announcer yells to the crowd. These sick twisted people began to cheer and shout for the pirate's death. Did they not realize that they were worse than the person they were hanging? Was I supposed to be proud of these monsters who 'saved' me?

My eyes meet the emerald gaze of my lover. He gave me one final smile before the executioner lifted him up onto a wooden stool. His eyes never left mine as the noose was placed around his neck.

Everything was lost. There was no cheering crowd. There was no threat of death. It was just him and I. The pirate and the prince.

And then there was nothing.

Those emerald eyes that used to show so many emotions went blank. I believe I yelled. Maybe I screamed. I'm not exactly sure. I remember my guards quickly moving to protect me. The people all turned to me. Everything was numb. It was as if they had also hung me. Right there next to the hanging tree.
