Disclaimer: I want it noted that if I did own NCIS, this is completely not what would happen. At all. Well, maybe something like this - but with such a different ending.

A/N: So I went on a Jibbs FF spree yesterday, and reading FF always inspires writing FF. I can't recall a particular story (I really did read a lot) so a massive thanks to all the fantastic Jibbs writers on this site for the inspiration.

A/N2: Possibly the first proper story-poem I've ever written, as apposed to internal musing-ey poem. Odd. I have to say, it was quite fun.

He Knows She Can't

She made it clear when they met again
That she didn't want him anymore.
And so it hurt like nothing else when
She realised what she was there for.

She stood and watched and didn't speak
Couldn't bear to say that she was wrong.
Poured herself a glass of bourbon
In the hope that it would spur her on.

He slowly turned from the wood
And stared with clear blue eyes
Remembering when her clouded green
Didn't look so old or wise.

"What you doing here, Jen?" he asked,
The gentle words hung in the air,
She took another drink in silence
Looked away from his stare.

I'll always love you, Jethro,
Was all she wanted to say,
I'm so sorry I left you behind,
I knew that I should stay.

But I was scared and lost,
And I felt the need to run,
I'm so sorry I ever left you,
I was stupid and I was young.

Can you ever forgive me?
Her eyes silently plead,
Because I'll always love you, Jethro
You're all that I need.

"You can go if you like," he said,
She knew he was giving an out,
A chance to go and never say
What she'd come to him about.

She raised a hand to his face,
And trailed her fingers down his cheek,
Knowing that she should leave,
And knowing she was too weak.

Traced the outline of cracked lips,
A tear fell from her eye,
He wiped her face with a callused thumb,
Enjoyed her quiet sigh.

She wrapped her arms around him,
He brushed her lips with his,
Waited for inevitable words…
"Jethro, I can't do this."

He held on a second longer,
Then said to her, "I know,"
And then because he loved her,
He sadly let her go.

And then she came back and said she loved him and would always love him. Promise. *sobs* Okay, she didn't. But c'mon. Jenny's an idiot.
