It's Mikan's 18th birthday! Her friends are busily helping her preparing for the party a few days before.
-a week before the party-
"Hey? Hotaru, mom needs help. Please can you contact her?" Mikan asked her bestfriend on the phone.
"Sure baka, I'll see what I can do." Hotaru answered.
"Thanks! Let's see, uhm, uhuh, what?"
"What happened?"
"Nothing, it's just that the 18 roses are still lacking, what'll I do? Who else can I put for the 18 roses?"
"How about Natsume and Ruka?"
"Why would I?"
"Cause you needed them for the 18 roses dummy."
"Fine! Can you ask him?"
"Sure, my pleasure."
"Thanks Hotaru! Bye now."
"Bye."
Hotaru dialed Ruka's Number, a few rings and someone finally abswered, "Yes?"
"Mikan lacks 2 persons for the 18 roses, you must fill in."
"Sure, who's the other one?"
"Is Hyuuga there with you?"
"Uhhm, yeah."
"Hand him the phone."
"Ok, wait." As Ruka handed Natsume the phone.
"Hn. What?"
"Mikan lacks the 18 roses. You'll fill in."
"And why would I do that?" he asks raising his brow.
"Cause I told you so."
"And What if I don't?"
"You'll regret it."
"Fine as long as there's food."
"Pig."
"I'm not, just hungry."
"Whatever. Bye."
"Hn."
-at the party- Mikan's POV
Wow. A lot came. Everyone's so busy but still had a great time. And it's almost time for the 18 roses, the MC neared me saying 2 of the roses haven't arrived or was busy that they can't attend, now I started panicking. I asked for Nonoko's help and we found out two can fill in, Youichi and Tsubasa.
One by one, the dance will come to an end. My feet are already hurting. As I heard the MC telling everyone who the next person is and it turns out to be Natsume Hyuuga. As I turned to look at him, he suddenly smiled, no I think he just grinned at me, showing his teeth. I was surprised knowing that Natsume smiled. And as we danced, we didn't had a proper conversation unlike the rest but I was for the second time surprise that he greeted me, "Happy Birthday Mikan." as I replied with a simple "Thank you."
I was still thinking why he smiled or grinned at me even after the party. Until a few days later I told Hotaru.
Normal POV
As Mikan told Hotaru what happened, Hotaru simply stated, "He likes you."
"What? That couldn't be true." Mikan exclaimed.
"And why not?"
"Because."
"Just so you know, he doesn't smile at anyone like how he smiled at you."
"But!"
"No buts. We can even asked someone who knows him more."
"Who?"
"Aoi." Hotaru answered as she dialed Aoi and told her to come at the usual café cause they have something they want to asked and with that Hotaru ended the call. A few moments later Aoi came in and sat with them.
"So what do you want to ask me?" Aoi asked.
"Nothing!" Mikan burst.
"Well, your brother doesn't smile at anyone right?" Hotaru asked.
"Yep, why do you ask?" Aoi answered.
"Nothing. Nothing. How about let's eat?" Mikan intervened.
"Well, your brother smiled at Mikan." Hotaru answered.
"What? Well that means he likes you Mikan." Aoi said.
"No he doesn't." Mikan told them still not taking it as the truth.
"I think he does." Aoi said.
"And I know he does." Hotaru finished.
"Whatever." Mikan said as she had no choice but to admit defeat.
