One shot

A/N: This is my first one shot, hope you enjoy it. This is a plot bunny that came to me at 11 o'clock at night, I had to write it. It's basically just fluff.

Pairing: James/ Lily

His parents had always told him Hogwarts was beautiful in the winter, however he had never been one to stop and appreciate life in the fullest but now he realised how much he had missed by not taking a moment to stop and look, he could see the beauty of it all.

A light dusting of snow covered the tops of the many towers and turrets making them look like the cakes dusted with icing sugar that the house elves used to bake when he was a little kid… it all seemed so far away. Sighing, he sat on a rock by the lake's shore… losing his parents had been hard, it was just so sudden and right after the tragedy that occurred in his own girlfriend's life.

Oh Lily, his sweet gentle Lily… who finally agreed to date him after so long. His parents never even got the chance to meet her…they were gone in a green flash as bright as his sweet Lily's eyes, they didn't even get to hear the news that he was head boy… the letter came two weeks too late… two weeks after his world came crashing down around him. He threw a pebble, watching as it bounced off the frozen lake with a gentle grace.

Standing up, he dusted himself off looking longingly at the locked gates, wishing it was a Hogsmeade weekend or that Sirius wasn't in detention, or that it wasn't the day after the full moon… Remus would understand or even that Peter hadn't disappeared.

Something was up with his short friend… something he couldn't place his finger on, something he'd bet his broomstick, only he noticed. He sat up straighter as the snow around him crunched, signalling the arrival of someone.

He smiled as he inhaled his girlfriend's scent, she smelled like chocolate and strawberries… two of her favourite foods. "Hey you." She said from her place behind him.

He stood up, walking over to her, "Hey." He replied tucking a stray lock of her fiery, auburn hair behind her ear, "You are so beautiful." He said breathlessly, "what did I ever do to deserve you?" He asked his, now bright red girlfriend.

"You were you." She replied, her green eyes locking on to his own hazel ones, "you were you but without all the dramatics… I never really hated you, just the way you acted." She paused, "I know it sounds stupid but it's the truth. Here." She finally said handing him a hot chocolate, "Now what are you thinking about… I know you usually come here to think… or brood." She added as an afterthought.

He accepted the hot chocolate, running a hand through his unruly hair, "Just… everything. My life. The future. Our future… its nothing to worry about."

Her green eyed gaze swept over him, filled with concern for him. "I may not be able to see the future… I didn't even take divination. But James, if there is one thing that I am certain of in this world, it is that I. Love. You. James. Potter. And don't you ever doubt that." She let forwards capturing his lips with her own in a slow, tender kiss. "If you ever need someone, I'll always be here for you.

"I know." He replied with a genuine smile, something no-one had seen since the end of last year not even when he and Lily started dating. That was one of the best things about having a girlfriend, James decided, they always seemed to know what to do at the right time to make you feel better, even when you don't know what it is yourself.
