"James?"
James blinked, did Lily Evans, well known hater of he, James Potter, just call him James?
"James. JAMES" he came back in to focus when she waved a hand in front of his face.
"Potter, we have patrol to do."
"Err, right, yes. On my way." He stood up and found that someone had taken his cloak from his pocket. Sighing, he was working out who by process of elimination. Walking out of the Heads common room, he noticed that Lily hadn't taken her eyes off of him, and he smiled slightly.
"Oi, can't you find somewhere more dignified to 'do your business'?" He jumped as Lily half shouted at two Slytherins who were less than moderately clothed. He interrupted,
"And, that will be 50 points from each of you and if you don't hurry up, a week of detentions. You have until 10."1.…2.…3.…4.…5.…6.…7.…8.…9.…10, okay. One week of detention with McGonagall." the Slytherins groaned and picking up their clothes, ran off. He caught Lily looking at him with a somewhat admiring look. He blushed making her smile gently. As they turned the corner, they paused as they saw Remus talking to a girl in Lily's dorm. They walked past them quietly, Remus hardly noticed them, because it was only fair that Remus got to talk to a girl on his own even if it was after hours. Sirius seemed to have taken his and Peter's fair share of girls for himself.
Turning the corner, James noticed a brown owl sat on the banister waiting for someone to pass by. As soon as the owl saw Lily, she flew straight towards her and dropped the letter by her feet. Lily picked it up and gently pulled apart the seal. James pointed the bench for her to sit on while she read it. He was slightly surprised, when she thanked him. She opened it and as she read, her eyes widened and a single tear fell down her cheek. James was startled, in all seven years or being at Hogwarts, he had never seen Lily Evans cry.
