I wrote this after reading about Black Rhinos' extinction. But then, I read somewhere that there were a few left and they were being protected.
I think i'm not the only one who heard about this...
Even though it was a very sunny day in Africa, for Martin, everything was really gray and sad.
He was surely gone. And there was nothing the Wild Kratts could do…
His thoughts were interrupted, once he saw his little brother approaching him. Chris sat close to him under the tree and put a hand on his shoulder, seeing his big brother's sad face.
"I know…" He said. "It is a very sad reality."
Martin sighed.
"Me and Aviva made some research. They were only considered extinct because there are only a few of them now." Chris tried comforting him.
"Yeah…VERY few." Martin sighed.
"Bro?"
"Oh. It's nothing, Chris…i…just wish we could have done something…"
Chris thought for a moment. "You think he's between that ones, right?"
Martin nodded.
"Come on, that's not what you would think."
"And what else could I think?" Martin answered, his frustration coming through his voice. He walked a few steps away, then stopped. Tears started appearing on his blue eyes.
"What if everything we done…everything we have been through…just to protect them all…wasn't worthwhile at all?"
Chris walked on his big bro's direction and touched his arm.
"If we haven't went through what happened that day, Zach would have lead them to extinction earlier. We gave them a chance to live their lifes…free and in the wild…and this was totally worthwhile."
Their chat was interrupted by the sound of a Kookaburra horn. The Tortuga crew had just returned from their "race around Serengeti". They opened the Createrra VX's door and helped their "special guest" to get on the floor.
Martin heard a familiar sound. A calf. A rhino calf. He looked up. Could it be…
"Nubs?" He asked himself. The calf approached Martin and allowed the Kratt in blue to touch him. He sounded happy to see him. Soon, Martin felt the huge need of hugging the calf.
The Tortuga crew stared at Martin. He was smiling again while hugging Nubs, and this was a good sign. It meant that their plan worked perfectly.
"We needed somehow to remind you of what you always taught us: that there's always hope." Aviva said.
Martin smiled to them. "Thanks, guys." He looked at Nubs. "I'm not giving up on you or any other creature. Not today, not EVER."
"That's the spirit, bro." Chris said, smiling and wiping a tear from his eyes.
Nothing was hopeless or not worthwhile for them. Not as long as they remained together.
