Bound, Not Broken

How…

How dare they bind one such as I

I am not some common dwarf,

To be commanded and bullied to make pretty trinkets for the arrogant ones

I am not some clumsy giant,

Culled to quiet by the Thunderer's treat of Mjölnir

I am Fenrir

The eldest child of clever Loki

Brother of Hel, the World Serpent, and the Six-legged Mount of the one-eyed king

Father of the devourer of Night and the Eater of Day

They will pay for their broken word, their shattered oath

Cowards, they feared me, my power, my cunning

Now,

They laugh and jeer at me

When my freedom has been robbed from me

Yet none of them save one

Were brave enough to stand in my presence when I roamed free

I lay bound, their victory over me earned through the efforts and deeds of others

No,

They tried to bind me, with iron chains of their own creation,

But not just once,

But twice I shattered them with no effort

At last they came to me

With a silk rope in place of their iron chains

They thought me a fool

That with a single jab at my pride

I would allow them to bind me with the suspicious rope

Their oath, they would free me if I could not free myself

But I knew of their intentions, and yet,

I still damned myself

Too clever by a half and too prideful by a whole I was

By days end I was bound

A victory earned through Tyr's courage and paid by his hand

Their beast bound, they sought to make a jest of me,

In their merriment they forgot who I am

They did not bind some starving dog, but a hungry and vengeful wolf

One who has tasted the flesh of gods and one day will again

The arrogant Aesir will remember why they once feared me

I will face their grand king Odin on the field of battle,

Oh how satisfying the snap bones of his bones will make against my fangs

They will learn fear once more, and I will be the perfect teacher to remind them

I am Fenrir,

I am hungry, I am angry,

And I will not be bound forever
