Sometimes, Roxas wants to punch his best friend, or lock him up, or something, just to keep him from going near Kairi ever again. Because when Sora's around, Kairi speeds everything up, words&blushes&everything, and Roxas likes her so much more when she's quieter, when her words come out slowly and thoughtful...
But he never does anything to Sora, because, after all, they're best friends, and also Sora wouldn't understand, anyway. Roxas knows Sora would only lock up the pain inside of himself, like he always does. But Roxas just wants to forget it all, all of Sora and SorawithKairi, and KairiwithSora--
Except then Sora shows up and Kairi doesn't race anything, and Roxas looks at her eyes and knows something's wrong. And after Sora leaves, Kairi goes completely silent, so quiet even Roxas is scared, so he hugs her like he's seen Sora do (no he's not jealous, nonono) and tries to comfort her.
She sobs things into his neck, but he doesn't hear them, because his heart's pounding past his ears from where her lips are brushing against his skin and oh god she fits perfectly in his arms and he tries not to hold on too long-- after this is over, she'll go back to Sora and Roxas will be

alone

so he just keeps quiet--------
and oh (god) she's leaning on him and her lips are flush with his neck and he can't think.
Kairi?
& she simply smiles at him through those tears and pulls away, slowly, just like he hoped she would.
I want to forget.
so he entwines his fingers with hers so at least he can forget Sora too.
