The First Star Spangled Gelert
Prologue:
A blue Lupe walked into the Creation Center waiting room. "Your Gelert is ready, Miss," the Lupe led the Neopian into another room with a little blue and white starred Gelert sitting on a table, and a mirror along one wall. "What color Gelert did you say you ordered?" asked the Lupe with a worried tone. "I got just what I wanted, thank you," said the Neopian. "Are you sure you want this one? We can fix the error with a simple paintbrush," the Lupe asked persistently. "No thank you. Is there anymore paper work I need to fill out?" the Neopian asked with anguish. "I will go and get it," the Lupe said timidly. "Now then... You're just a little angel aren't you?" the Neopian asked with admiration in her voice. "I guess so," the little Gelert replied.
"Well then, what shall we name you?"
"We?"
"Yes, we. What do you want to be named?"
"Don't ask me. That's your job, your the owner."
"I don't like the word 'owner.' Since I am going to be taking care of you.... Call me Mom. Does that suit me?"
"Yeah, I like it! But what will I be called?"
"Well, since your fur is so unique, I guess we should name you after your colors."
"Like Starry?"
"Let's see... Look in the mirror. Do you think you look like a Starry?"
"I don't think that name is good for me."
"Oh, I almost forgot. I brought you a gift."
She pulled out of her purse a red and white striped collar and a red and white striped hat.
"They're beautiful!"
"So you like them?"
"Yeah! Can I try them on?"
"They're all yours!"
The little blue and white starred Gelert put on the hat and collar.
"Do I look good?"
"You look great!"
"Now I think you might look more like a true American!"
"So I'm an American? Why am I an American?"
"Yeah, you're an American because I am and I'm your mom."
"Oh, so what does that mean?"
"It means we shall name you Stars&Stripes!"
"Wow! I like that name!"
"It suits you just fine!"
The Lupe walked back into the room and handed Mom a stack of papers. "You need to fill these out before taking her home," said the Lupe. "This may take a while..." Mom said. As Mom was filling out the paperwork, the little blue and white starred Gelert drifted into a long nap. When Mom finished finalizing Stars&Stripes as her daughter, she picked up the sleeping form and took her home.
