Sometimes it was all too much. Lilina wandered the halls of castle Osita, alone, for the thousandth time. She found she was moping throughout the halls far more often than healthy. Every day, after she'd deal with the nobles, she wander, left to her own lonely world of loneliness. She's been wandering the halls ever since… THAT day. That day her entire world turned upside down. That day her hopes and dreams were crushed. That day he broke her heart without realizing it.
"Lilina, can I ask you a very important question?"
Her face lit up, "Sure, Roy! Anything to help you."
Gods, he was perfect, Lilina thought. He was her perfect man. Handsome, compassionate, strong… she could spend days admiring him, "Well, Lilina, there's a question I want to ask this woman…"
She stopped, her mind racing as to what he was about to say, "W…What kind of question? What kind of woman?"
His face turned as red as his hair, "I want to propose to someone."
Lilina stood there, mouth ajar, staring at him, "Roy… who? WHO?"
She was filled with love. He really does feel the same way… He really does love …
"Sophia."
She stopped again, "W…What?"
He looked down to the ground, "I want to marry Sophia. Can you help me? I don't know what to say- Lilina, where are you going?"
He couldn't stop her, nor could he stop the tears that came down her eyes. Nor the tears that came at his wedding. Nor the tears that came every night, the tears that lulled her to sleep.
*Today*
Lilina supposed she may one day get over it. However, that one day was not any time soon. She decided that the garden might be a suitable place for her to weep, but there was already someone there. She was about to leave, but the man stopped her
"Lilina!"
She cringed. She liked Gonzales, she really did, but the last thing she needed was another red headed man talking to her. However, she made the mistake of turning around to face him. And, as always, she found herself giving in to that big toothless grin.
"Gonzales, how are you?"
She turned around and sat with him, "I be great! I lift many big things! Chop many bandits!"
After the war, Gonzales came back with her to Osita and became their strongest member of their army. The nobles were outraged that Lilina's first order as Queen was to appoint 'a big, illiterate oaf' to a high position of power, but even those inhumane dirt bags lost themselves to Gonzales's charm.
She flashed him a smile, "That's great, Gonzales!"
His smile faltered, "What wrong?"
Her smile faltered as well, "What do you mean? I'm just fine."
His tone turned stern, "You lie. I stupid, but no fool. What wrong?"
She tried to make some excuse, but she could not bring herself to lie to him. She told him of her pain, of the love that was unrequited, of all the nights she spent weeping.
Gonzales's tone remained stern, "You more stupid then me."
She looked up at him, "W…What?"
"You no tell no one. We like you. Me like you. Everyone like you. You tell we, and we help you."
She stared at him, feeling just as foolish as he is. He was right- she WAS being stupid, she SHOULD have gone for help, she… was being pulled into a massive hug. Gonzales said nothing else, but he held her tight, letting his warmth come over her and do all the healing for him.
"He says he's an idiot, but he knows what I need…"
He's smart enough for that, at least.
